My parents and my three brothers and one sister are from Georgia. Two of my brothers were born in LaGrange, not far from where I live now. I am in the country surrounded by woods but close to shopping areas and the highway, but have to have a car. My father and I left Atlanta, where my brother who is older then me, myself and my baby sister were born. My sister was just born, my parents wanted to relocate from the south, they were living well in Atlanta, racism was bad in the south. My father adored me and took me with him to get settle in New Haven Connecticut where my mother's brothers were already there! My mother and the rest of my siblings came 6 months later.
My mother was a strong spiritual woman and she was a Missionary Baptist, they were more Bible base. She never drank, curse, or smoke. She didn't even go to the movies. She sent us to the show but it was totally different in the 50's. We always had worship including my father, who did smoke only. He love my mother and he was a very good father. My mother while carrying me read her Bible a lot and she read the Commandments. She read about the Sabbath and went to her ministers and she was not happy about what he said to her. So after our move to Connecticut, she began to have Bible Studies with ever religion you could think of, when the Sabbath question came up and they did not keep it out they went.
One day, at work this guy was after another woman and he use a Bible Scripture. My mother got on him and he told her he knew his Bible. He also told her that he was taking Bible studies from this couple and he had the lesson. She read it and she said THE HOLY SPIRIT told her this is what she had been looking for! She invited them and questioning after two weeks about the Sabbath. The difference with them they kept saying we should keep all of the Commandments all the time. My mother had a dream about the second coming and on their first screen was her dream and we all indicated it as well! The question about the Sabbath came up and they stated they did keep the Sabbath, they were shocked about my mother knowledge of the Sabbath. That is how we became Adventist, I was five but I remember even today. My father stop smoking, but eventually he started back, my brother was sent to Oakwood Academy and he wrote a letter to my father! My father went to church and stood up to be baptized, that afternoon my father fell and died! It was the worst time of my life, I was seven! My mother raised all five and went to church school most of our youth, I also attended Oakwood academy and went to Oakwood college. My mother have always been strong in YAHWEH and she is alive today. She married after returning back to Atlanta, my aunts all joined the church through her. Her closet sister and her sister husband all went to Maranatha in Atlanta. My baby aunt goes to church in Chicago and my other aunt she left the church she lives in LaGrange, my mother's home town. My grandfather also attended the Adventist church but was never baptized. My mother is 90 years old and I take care of her and that's my story!
