“Called Project ECHO, CDC has funded weekly videoconferencing programs in Arizona and Utah to boost primary care capacity for treatment of HCV in areas of the country that have a shortage of specialists. "Telemedicine is a tool for the physician to use in the provision of services. It is not a new service, but a modality by which it is provided. The physician should be held to the same standards he or she normally would whether providing his/her services in person or via technology. Many issues can be solved by simply noting that a physician will be held to the same standard of care whether services are provided in person or via telemedicine. In many situations, therefore, no additional policies need to be created."

The "Federation of State Medical Boards Model Telemedicine Guidelines" fact sheet, another collaborative effort of the #TRCConsortium, reviews the FSMB's SMART Workgroup's suggestions for #telehealth concepts, principles, and definitions that individual states may choose to utilize.
