Sometime ago, I posted a closer telephoto shot taken around the same time of a mixture of pyrocumulus and nimbocumulus clouds.  This is also the Moonlight Fire but with some foreground and late light hitting Mt. Filmore on the Plumas NF.
Don't know when I'll get a chance to respond if there are any comments, as it's time to hit the road for another fire season.  Looks like it might be an interesting one!
Apologies in advance.

Well, I couldn't decide whether to call this Overseer or _OverLord, both seem apropos. From Joshua Tree National Park, one of our antelope squirrel camp buddies.

Here's another shot of that rainbow that popped through the stormy clouds. This one zoomed in at 95mm. I submitted the wide-angle shot for +Reinhard Latzke 's #stormyfriday last week. You can find that shot here: http://tw.gs/Uyu5a . The rainbow is ~15 miles from my location.

Due to my slow limited bandwidth this summer, I've been totally inactive on G+, but thought I'd throw one in today taken a few evenings ago when this fire was just getting started.  The 16 Complex Fire is now over 12,000 acres with only 20% containment.  An exaggerated shot due to the long 10 minute exposure and the fire is 90 miles to my WSW across the Central Valley.
Sutter Buttes in the valley has a couple of radio towers on it at it highest point.  #firefriday, #longexposurethursday
Hmmm....this may not even work but I'll give it a go.

I recall some great shots from +Tuan Le rom this area, so some former sand turned to sandstone, and someday back to sand....
for #desertsandday from Joshua Tree NP, the ever so photographed Jumbo Rocks in the campground. The white spot is where the ravens like to perch. ;)

Thanks so much +Ypille Mia & +Tuan Le . Ha! I did a quick search through some of the digital stuff, and I see the spot was a very bright white in 2006. I suppose it's affected by the wind and rains, just as are the rocks. I'm sure I'm not nearly as well organized as +Steve Sieren , or I'd be able to go back into the slides....which would take me sleuthing somewhere into the last century ;)

It's getting to be that time of the year in the West. This from the Howland Fire on the Plumas NF that grew to around 100 acres, if I recall correctly. Here's a lead plane showing the tanker pilot the path through the smoke. ~ 6 miles away.

Good luck on a quiet season +Bruno Roig Torres . We only use the lead planes on large fires. Thanks +Grayson Hartman I guess it's a good thing I don't have many shots of them working within a few miles. :) Thanks +Paul Paradis & +Andrew Vaughan Smith ...no danger, it didn't get close, and they caught it at ~100 acres.

Last November, while wondering around the Alabama Hills, I came across this duck-like arch not too far off of the 'Movie Road'. I don't know if it has an official name, but it certainly should be something aviary! That same day, the road was closed, and there were humvees and other military vehicles running up and down the road, and some guy in Captain America suit! ;)
