Tomorrow at 11am, The Senate Rules Committee will be meeting and on their schedule are a few bills of interest to us.

The first is SB896 which lowers the percentage of the vote needed to stay a recognized political party. It reduces the vote percentage from 10% to 2.5% of the vote for President and Governor. We want this bill to pass.

The second is SB1016 Which removes party names from voter registration forms. Voters will have to write in their party choice. This one is a toss up. We won't argue about it passing or not. It is all a matter of personal opinion on whether you like this change or not.

The third is SB1108 which removes the names of Electors for President from the ballot, leaving only the names of the candidates for President and Vice President on the November ballot. We want this bill to pass.

Please contact the Senate Rules committee and ask that they pass SB896 and SB1108 for sure.

Remember VoterID that was passed in 2010? Well, Representative Perryman wants to make it even worse. He wants to force people to register their fingerprints and facial recognition scans with the government in order to vote. He also wants to give law enforcement access to this massive database.

We aren't quite sure what to think about this bill. While it will save the state some money on printing costs every time a new party forms or a party loses recognition. However, it will make it more difficult for new parties to casually gain new members. Yet again, it will be more likely that people will leave party preference blank and thus increasing registered Independents in the state.

What do you think?

Independent Voters Only Voter Registration To Gain From 2015. Republicans and Independents gained from 2014. This means more people are choosing to leave the duopoly parties. This has great implications for the coming elections this November.

Last year, the Oklahoma Legislature passed landmark legislation reducing the number of signatures new parties need to gather to form in this state. However, this petition reduction is meaningless if Oklahoma's 10% vote test remains in place. To mend that, Senator Kyle Loveless has introduced SB896. This bill lowers the vote test from 10% of the vote for President or Governor to 2.5%. This is a much more realistic, if still too high, goal for a newly formed party.

Please contact your State Senator and Representative and demand that SB896 pass this year.

Senator Kyle Loveless has introduced SB896 to lower the vote test to stay a recognized party. Support this bill. http://okvoterchoice.org/2016/01/senator-loveless-introduces-bill-to-lower-vote-test-for-new-parties/
