+Keith Munro  - I can't reply directly to your comment because of strange and annoying Google+/blogger comments issues.

To the poiint - I am not using MOBAC directly, but I can try and make a simple MOBAC source file. I will try and do it over the coming weekend.

In the mean time, you can try and use the address I use to download USGS Topo Maps tiles from ArcGIS -
http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/USA_Topo_Maps/MapServer/tile/{zoom}/{y}/{x}.png

MOBAC's syntax is similar, but requires some minor differences. Maybe you can use that address to get your source file to work.

Nothing of that magnitude. I will be in Japan for two weeks in late April, but just playing tourist. And I hope to do a trail in the Alps maybe in September, if I can squeeze it in this year. But also for about two weeks. I'm glad I found your blog, so I can follow you along your hike. Have a great time. About Gaia for iOS - I think they don't support importing MBTiles to their app currently, but their Android version does. So maybe it will come to iPhone soon.

Just created some CDT offline map files, and KMZ files with many informative layers

A very good deal, even for just two members. Not to mention 6 on the same subscription.

Damn, that seems like a fine deal. Expensive, though.
