Lord Lieutenant Warren J Smith who is the Queen’s representative for the County of Greater Manchester visited Ashton on Mersey School with particular interest in the Sixth Form which he had not had the opportunity to visit following the opening ceremony with the Duke of Gloucester. He met with the Head Boy and Head Girl and visited a number of classes.  He took time to explain his official role which was of great interest to the pupils, they were surprised he had to fulfil over 400 appointments each year.

MFL Department Welcome MUFC Star, Adnan Januzaj

Mr Loynd and the MFL department welcomed Manchester United’s young Belgian starlet, Adnan Januzaj, into school to take part in a ‘Q&A’ session with our Year 9 GCSE French pupils.

The aim of the session was to give pupils the opportunity to practise their French speaking and listening skills, whilst simultaneously meeting one of football’s brightest talents. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the pupils concerned, and it proved to be a great success. Pupils were able to employ their speaking and listening skills in a real-life Francophone context, whilst the event also served to inspire and enthuse the pupils in the build up to their GCSE preparations.
