"When all information is freely available at the click of a mouse, our attention naturally nosedives in the sickest and most grotesque we can find."
...
"We become only exposed to the most extreme negative aspects of certain groups of people, giving us a skewed view of how other people in the world really think, act, and live."
...
"We demonize each other. We judge groups of people by their weakest and most depraved members."

So yeah - it takes strength, time, and effort not to be seduced by the media (traditional+new) feasting upon the worst aspects of society and react irrationally to it. But it's necessary, lest we let particularly nasty politicians rise to the top on a bed of our misconceptions and irrational fears.

So back to the fine article:

"Freedom can only exist when you are willing to tolerate views that oppose your own, when you’re willing to give up some of your desires for the sake of a safe and healthy community, when you’re willing to compromise and accept that sometimes things don’t go your way and that’s fine."

Edit: that said, if the opposing views are promoting intolerance then I think I'll have to draw a line and say that that's not okay.

And now for a moment of sanity about the upcoming US election.

Seems like the next logical progression!

This all rings true. I wish that I discovered D&D much earlier in life. There's so much creativity, colaboration, and empathy to be learned from playing D&D well.

A wonderful time lapse of Juno's approach to Jupiter, with the moons orbiting and being eclipsed by Jupiter itself.

Found at and well explained by: http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2016/07/05/juno_animation_shows_jupiter_s_moons_on_the_move.html

Well, piss.

"Toxic masculinity was just as much to blame for the Orlando shootings as radical Islam."

This brings up some interesting new witness statements. In short: prejudice against gay people may in fact be causal in this case. But not in the immediately obvious way.

This is not the action of a civilised person; it's barbaric to encourage and cheer on these killings.

It's sad that Sanders is out of the running, but don't throw your toys out of the pram.

Or read what Scalzi said - it's far better written than what I write :)
Scalzi writes words better than I do. These words are close to the words that I would write, if I were a better word-writer.

"My own politics lie ever so slightly more with Sanders than with Clinton, and had he prevailed over Clinton, I would have happily voted for him in the general over any of the candidates the GOP had in their field this year. [...] I get many of you are upset and even grieving about Sanders missing his chance. Sorry about that. Take a few days! It’s okay. But after those few days are over if you’re still trying to find some way for Sanders to win — or less charitably, trying to find some way to punish Hillary Clinton for the heinous crime of having won more states, more pledged delegates and more actual votes than Bernie Sanders — then you should really be asking yourself if you’re letting your own definition of perfect become the enemy of the entire world not becoming a rampaging goddamn trash fire, because that’s really the other option at this point."

I've been drunk many times, even in the presence of promiscuous women who were also drunk, and I managed not to rape them, so I don't think drinking and promiscuity are the problems.
