TREND: Video

Social video engagement is expected to skyrocket in 2018. This includes videos on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. Statistics show YouTube viewers are watching a billion hours of video each day, over 8 billion videos are viewed on Facebook every day, and 82% of people on Twitter are watching video posts. Those numbers are only going to continue to rise. Considering these numbers, it's also important to note that 90% of Twitter video views and 60% of YouTube video views are done on a mobile device. It's expected that in 2018, many marketers will be increasing their marketing budgets with a focus on mobile ads using video.

I don't seem to be able to add a hyperlink in the Profile Description. I need to link to a second website. There's no link icon, but I wondered if it's possible to add a hyperlink another way. I tried adding HTML in the box but it's not working. Thanks!

Engagement is more than likes, shares and comments. Clicks are another form of engagement. Post interesting facts, survey results, or another form of interesting data relating to a topic in your industry on your website. Add a teaser post on social media. Make the post intriguing enough as to encourage followers to click on your website link to learn more.

In early 2016, Facebook released Facebook Reactions as a way to encourage users to engage better with one another. These reactions include Love, Haha, Wow, Sad and Angry. As a marketer, this offers you a good way to engage with your audience by encouraging a reaction. Using an emoji as a prompt can help set the tone and show your followers how you'd like them to react. For example, if what you're sharing is funny, include the laughing emoji in your post. This will show that what you’re sharing is funny and might inspire a reaction.

Another way to capture your audience's attention and stop the scroll is to know what they like to do when they're not online.

For example, do you have a following that is mainly animal lovers? Use photos of dogs playing or being active. Post photos of employee pets. Are a lot of your followers physically active? Create a few posts about fitness or posts that sports-related. In any case, incorporating posts that are relevant to your following in their offline time will make them more likely to stop scrolling and look at what you have to say.
