If you're looking for a small, but meaningful donation before the end of the year, there's only $100 to go on this Kiva loan. Support a young woman studying to be a nurse's aide and eventually a doctor.

On the road agin...this time to the datacenter in Lenoir. NC. Weather permitting, of course, but I'm hoping to see these wild little guys roaming about on the beaches of North Carolina next weekend.

The Atlanta Puppet Museum is fabulous and currently has a great exhibit of Jim Henson creations. Got up close and personal with Big Bird who seemed not at all perturbed by Mr Romney's latest nonsense!

It's Wikipedia fundraising time!. Free knowledge for everyone in the world - and in their own language! Check out their thank you video, then donate! http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Thank_you

And, great news for would-be contributors of knowledge who don't know Wiki markup - now you don't have to.  Give it a go!  http://www.engadget.com/2013/07/02/wikipedia-visualeditor/

If you just have to get a Windows 8 system, here's how to get your Google goodies back.

After reading the first reviews, I'm soooo glad I switched to the Mac. I mean, I hate Apple too, but I decided arbitrarily that I hated them a little less than MSFT, which is hateful AND incompetent.

Let me start by swearing that I had had primarily horrible experiences at the hands of most dentists until I met Dr. Armi. He's now my dentist for life because I called his office on a Saturday for a dental emergency before I was even a patient (was near my house). The recording gave his cell phone as a referral. When I called, Dr. Armi answered, heard the problem and asked if I'd like to meet him at his office in an hour. Now that's service! Dr. A is warm and generous with his time and expertise. Through his technical and artistic abilities, he was able to resculpt my bite -- one of the main causes of my tooth enamel cracks. He's done extensive restoration work for me since my old caps & fillings are pretty much worn out and my smile has never looked or felt better.

This showroom might be the best kept secret in Silicon Valley! We asked our plumber (Quick Plumbing) what brands we should consider in order to purchase some good quality fixtures and without hesitation he recommended we go to this shop. It's tucked away and a bit hard to find, but Google Maps to the rescue, we located the shop. The sales rep, Mark Salinas was intimately familiar with the product lines that the shop carries and gave us polite and helpful advice as we weighed our selections. The variety of quality fixtures was extraordinary - most have lifetime warranties - and the service was over the top! We had a window of opportunity during which our plumbing company (which was doing a major pipe upgrade for us outside our house), offered to install whatever fixtures we would like in the house for no additional charge. We had to get the fixtures quickly, so we went to this showroom where you can examine an excellent selection of quality fixtures for kitchen and bathroom (goodbye forever, Home Depot!). The salesperson helped us make informed choices about each fixture, from shower heads to sinks, then ordered them from his catalogs. The fixtures arrived two days later, even earlier than promised. We were delighted with the quality of the fixtures and with the quality of the salesperson.

One of our two faves for breakfast in Los Gatos, the other being the Southern Kitchen. My personal favorite treat is the apricot French toast with apricot syrup, but don't ignore all of the amazing benedicts, omlets, and home baked sweet treats. They serve Adelle's chicken apple sausage and Italian sausage. It is so popular they have another location uptown! One great feature of this one is the dog-friendly patio. If you like dog watching, this is your place.

The Castro Theater is a legend, even in its own town! Each time I go there, I am reminded of why it used to be so much fun to go out to a movie. The Castro has some of the most delightfully unusual bookings - things you just can't see at your local mega-cine-plex, such as Cinematic Titanic Live, Aleta Queen of Space silent film complete with Theremin and small orchestra accompaniment, and the Sing-Along Sound of Music and costume party. The theater has never been divvied up and the Mighty Wurlitzer still testifies on the weekends. You can fortify yourself from the adjacent coffee shop and cookie stores as you wait in line and enjoy chattering with your fellow movie goers. Go and enjoy yourself!

We ordered takeout and found the fare to be excellent! My husband ordered lamb shank. I asked if I could get a half order portion of ravioli and the pleasant phone person said, "Sure!" with a smile in her voice. The food was excellent with just a "pass" on the Caesar salad which had wonderful crispy romain and nice dressing but unremarkable croutons. Portions were huge and the desserts were outstanding -- one tiramisu is a generous serving, easily enough for two.

One of the two best breakfasts in Los Gatos, the other being the Los Gatos Cafe. This homey little place is often packed on the weekends, and with good reason. We've been regulars for many years, in particular because this is one place you can get an excellent buckwheat waffle (not on the menu). They have homemade sausages, biscuits, grits, and really friendly and super pleasant and efficient wait staff.

Consistently good, delicious gelato! While the walk-in shop itself is drab, the shop owner is a sweet man with a twinkle in his eye who engages his customers and makes them glad they came by. The lines are out the door all summer because the product is so good. Yum!
