Shaw's is two restaurants in one – a jazzy, sophisticated, seafood restaurant and a carefree, lively oyster bar. Both serve top-grade fish and shellfish, varieties of oysters, and sushi and sashimi.

I would love to give a review on the food, however we never had a chance and this is why. I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for my girlfriends birthday. We drove 3 hrs to experience Shaw's. When we arrived, they had record of our reservation, told my girlfriend Happy Birthday, gave us a buzzer and we headed to the bar. We waited 50 minutes for the buzzer to go off. I went to the hostess station to politely asked when we would be seated. She checked the buzzer, and told me that we were never entered into the system as checked in. She then said we would be seated as soon as possible. We waited 20 more minutes and left. We went to Gibson's, and had a great time, as well as treated with respect. Please respect your customers and make sure you at least look like you know what you are doing.

Shaw's is the place in the city for Oysters! They take their oysters very seriously. I dined here recently and experienced by first raw oyster. My husband loves oysters and has been eating them for years but I could never bring myself to try one until we came to Shaw's for an oyster tasting event. We really learned all there is to learn about oysters. The regions in which they come, how they are shucked, and the difference between east coast and west coast oysters among many other things. We tasted the raw oysters and then other varieties such as oysters Rockefeller. Shaw's has wines and beers to accompany your oysters for the best tasting experience. I highly recommend visiting Shaw's for their oysters but if oysters aren't your thing their menu also provides a vary of fare from land and sea. After our tasting I had the petite filet mignon which as cooked to a perfect medium. Just the way I like it. I also would recommend their chocolate layer cake or raspberry pie for dessert. This place earns 5 stars in my book!

If you are looking for the freshest oysters in Chicago then this is the place. Shaw's has been delivering fantastic food in Chicago for the last 30 years. Other fish restaurants have opened and closed over the years but Shaw's remains a constant in the city for seafood. Shaw's has a close relationship with many Oyster providers and they get their product delivered directly. It would be hard to find a fresher oyster unless you had your own boat in the North Atlantic. Shaw's prices all of their oysters the same which makes it easy to order and try the different varieties. They also have a great happy hour every day from 4 to 6pm which includes half price oysters. So if you love oysters, then this is the place for you. I must comment on the freshness of the oysters. They are amazing. It is interesting how different oysters have a different taste based on which coast and cove they are found in. Some are buttery and others taste like the salty sea. It's great to get a variety at Shaw's to see what type of oysters you like. I love topping my oyster with a dash of hot sauce, a little cocktail sauce and some of the fresh horseradish. The horseradish here is so good. If you have a chance ask to see the private room that houses the Oyster Hall of Fame. I am sure they will show it to you unless there is a private party going on in here. You could always rent the room and throw the ultimate oyster fest. I also recommend you try their exclusive homemade Pearl beer here that is brewed by Goose Island Brewery. It is actually brewed with crushed up oyster shells. How cool is that!!! Now if you don't like oysters then Shaw's has tons of other options. If you're a meat lover then I recommend you grab the filet. It is very good. The sides are out of this world. The steamed broccoli with a cheddar-brie sauce was fantastic. I loved at how green and crisp the broccoli was. I can't stand broccoli that has been killed to the point of mush in a restaurant. The Au Gratin Potatoes were simply amazing. The bowl contains the right consistency of crispy cheese outside to gooey cheese inside. I wanted to eat the whole dish myself. You can also choose from the many fresh seafood selections. I enjoyed the grilled Mahi Mahi in a ginger & garlic vinegar sauce. It gave the fish a nice Asian taste. And you can't say no to dessert. Fresh seafood and key lime go together. I wouldn't say it was the best I've ever had but it hit the spot. I thought it was a little to tart but I totally loved the graham cracker crust. On a side note they have love entertainment too. Recently on a Thursday night there was a great blues band playing in the bar area. I love my city because sometimes I feel like I'm on vacation but I'm not. I'm home! So if you've never been to Shaw's in Chicago, what are you waiting for. It's been in the city for 30 years and they keep cranking out quality food and drink. So shuck a shell and grab a seat at a Chicago Original, I guarantee you will be happy.

This Chicago iconic seafood lover's paradise never disappoint. My eyes almost popped out of my head the first time I bellied up to the bar and saw the mound of fresh oysters—12 varieties available. Now, I know what you are thinking. With 12 varieties they can't all be fresh and good. Wrong. They are some of the freshest and best in the city. (They are constantly busy so they run through them quickly). Do yourself a favor and order a dozen sampler. Then when you are done, order another so you can try all varieties. Oysters not your thing? Ok, try the Clam Chowder. The best you'll have outside of Maine. (yes, its the white version, not NY style). Sop it up with the addicting bread and you are in heaven. All of their seafood dishes are classics done really well. My favorite are the king crab legs (order the surf and turf). Lobster lovers can pick out their lobster from the tanks and have it made to order. I prefer sitting in the oyster bar. The bartenders are super friendly (they might even throw you a free slice of pie). And the atmosphere is great—especially when the live jazz band plays. Oh, and the best part? Half Priced Oysters during Happy Hour, Mon-Sun from 4-6pm. Looking to indulge? Give Sunday Brunch a try. It's an epic all you can eat buffet complete with oysters, crab legs, salads, maple-glazed bacon, omelette bar, and much, much more. The dessert table is loaded with mini versions of their famous treats like key lime pie and chocolate cake. There is even cotton candy for the kids (or the kid in you). If you are looking for seafood in Chicago in a warm atmosphere, great staff, and fresh oysters, this Lettuce Entertain You gem is your place.

We come from Philadelphia to experience Shaw's. My husband and I are Oyster addicts and love to sit in the Oyster bar closest to where the delicate operation of opening and plating the gems. The best deal is getting to the bar for HH special and select the East Coast v West Coast selections. But anytime is a good time to sample the selections. Actually, we dicker over the regions - me loving the East coast varieties and my husband savoring the West coast. The saltier the better followed by plump sweeties all dipped in Champaign Vinegar nectar! Highly recommend!

Here is a restaurant that runs like a Swiss watch, but still is able to bring a personal touch and smooth, relaxed manner to what could easily be a hectic, packed house. As regulars, we are greeted by name and even always seated at our favorite table. Then, of course, there is the food. I don't think one could regret ordering anything on their VERY extensive menu that includes numbers of fresh fish and seafood preparations, a full Sushi menu, and, yes, great steaks too. The wine list is diverse and includes numbers of selections both by the glass and by the bottle at reasonable prices as well as a deep list of fine wines for expense accounts, special occasions - or just because. Although I have run up some substantial checks, I have never felt that I didn't get value for my money - and that, to me is the way to evaluate my dining experience.

Shaw's in the city is one of the best places for seafood in the city. If you are interested in a lively atmosphere go to the bar portion of the restaurant. There is a Blues band that plays there on most nights! GREAT place to gather with friends!! Try the raspberry pie for dessert.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a brunch buffet with a better selection or higher quality of food. There is such a variety it is hard to decide what to have while still leaving room for the amazing dessert table. Everything, including shrimp cocktail, sushi, beef tenderloin, crab legs, lump crap meat, maple bacon and lobster bisque was delicious. My one complaint is that, for the price, they should not have fun out of a few items (crab legs, crab cakes) as early as they did. It would also be nice if it came with a breakfast cocktail included in the price of the buffet. Will definitely be back on future visits to Chicago.
