A good marketing stunt involves elements of surprise, humor, (or shock) and reaches it's core audience at the right time and place. That's exactly what the Seattle Police Departments did at a stoner event called Hempfest. They handed out bags of Dorritos with a sticker reminding them of the do's and dont's of using pot and accompanied it by some Twitter updates showing some classy (self)humor.
Prankvertising is a clunky word. It involves making fun of people for commercial purpose. Here is the latest addition to the mix by LG. Is it real or are these just actors? That's one question that takes away from those videos for us. If you'd produce it with real-life subjects and one of them suffers a hear attack you'd have a little problem at our hands ;)
We are still smiling about the efforts of the Marijuana Policy Project to spread their message to Nascar fans. Nice try. Of course a couple of beer brewers had a thing to say about it and the add was pulled. It got them quite some eyeballs though and therefore their mission was at least partially accomplished.
