weirdest dream (or at least weird) last night. I was returning from an overseas consulting job, but instead of returning to my home office I returned to a building in Gosford near the beach, where my new boss was a guy Ionce worked for in my first real job. He wanted me take some software I wrote which inspects java heaps and CPU usage, and use the results for real time camo on world war two fighting planes. The planes were controlled by java software, and when they fired guns or did dives etc the heaps were more active, and the camo would realtime cycle a representation of the plan control software. The iostat, sys, idle, user CPU stats were on the underside of the plane, the java heap on the top. Apparently this made it easier for other planes in the squadron to see the realtime capabilities of the plane by looking at them, but opposing forces would just see swirls of colour and be confused and make mistakes. Then the Chinese government raided the office, and I was taken outside where it started raining. That's when I woke up.

This is deeply troubling. Oracle want to destroy modern computing and hold back development by years, if not decades, with craptacular lawsuits like this

The South Australian government has built this multi billion dollar desalination plant in the wrong spot, and we should have spent the money on groundwater harvesting anyway ... however

They are digging up the road out the front to lay a pipeline about 40km from the plant to Hope Valley reservoir. Big deep trench, big pipe, lots of inconvenience.

Aalsmeer and Amsterdam last week, at the back end of the Western European cold. You can see how much snow melted in 24 hours by comparing the windmill shots.
