Had a great experience leading a team intervention yesterday where we discovered some wonderful not scope of work strengths that season employees have to share with this team.

One is an experienced Dutch Oven chef. Guess who is going to share some joy with the team for some superior summer end recognition event.

A good team is so much more than their accumulated scope of work.

#EmployeeEngagement is a consequence not cause. #CEO's must root out the cause of poor employee engagement rather than continuing to replace bandages over a hemorrhaging bottom line.

That said, culture offers root cause solutions for those with the courage and persistence to explore it.

Employee Engagement is an emotional and behavior impacted response to culture issues. Therefore, emotional and behavioral cues within the work culture point you to the root causes. And you can assess it. It is measurable.

I found this article from the BBC disturbing. Few leaders seem to understand that when people come to work for them, those individuals have placed their physical and psychological well-being in the leaders’ hands.

What do you think?

Fire authorities are building a fire protection barrier around the most vulnerable part of our City. Last year we sweltered in smoky heat. Fires from California, Oregon and Washington smogged our skies and choked us.

So, I get why we are getting planned burns now. However, what is going up in smoke is also a resource. Could that resource diminish the impact of burning on global warming?

If there are piles of cut tree limbs that the forest service is burning, what other uses are there for these piles? How could non-profits or prisons harvest these piles throughout the year for economic benefit? Is there economic benefit here beyond saving homes in the path of wild fire?

This press release crossed my desk today. It lists a list of #SocialResponsibility press releases across the US. If you find one to blog about, that's very cool. Let me know.

Isn't culture and behavior behind employee engagement?

If the culture is disempowering and disrespectful as evidenced by measurable behavior, then engagement is impacted.

Would you say engagement is an effect of cause?

The impact of a good business in a community actually strengthens that community. Here are a couple of ideas on how a good business strengthens the community. Please feel to add to these ideas:

1. Living wages give employees the funds to share with other community enterprises and not-for-profit organizations that serve community interests.

2. Good business cultures empower employees and engage them. Employees go home at night with a felt sense of making a difference. This impacts how families interact.

3. Good business entrepreneurship grounds sustainable solutions to the world's most common problems - clean air, clean water, global warming.

4. Added by +Gideon Rosenblatt: Opening up ownership in a company so employees have a true stake. (Big happy face high five on this one, Gideon.)

5. How can you expand this discussion?
