If you’re considering an abortion, you’ll want to come to Your First Look first to make sure you have all the information you need to make the decision that is best for you.

The first person you’ll meet when you come to Your First Look is our intake coordinator. She is the person you spoke to on the phone when you called and she will greet you at the door as well. She will then share with you what to expect during your visit so there are no surprises.

Next you’ll meet your advocate who will go over your situation to see how we can help you. She will then review all your options, including abortion, adoption and parenting.

The advocate is here for you. Her focus is on answering your questions, providing information, and helping you to feel confident in your decisions.

While you’re meeting with your advocate, a nurse will be performing a pregnancy test. When you are finished meeting with the advocate, she will take you to the nurse who will get medical information from you and answer any questions you have. If your pregnancy test is positive, the nurse may offer an ultrasound to confirm that your pregnancy is viable (living in the uterus). Whether an ultrasound is offered will depend on how you are feeling that day, if you are bleeding, and when your last period was.

Besides telling you if the pregnancy is viable, the ultrasound will also tell you how far along you are. This is important to know if you are considering an abortion. The nurse will also talk to you about STD testing. STD testing and treatment should take place before an abortion to avoid getting Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.

Your advocate will be in the room with you when you have an ultrasound. We will make sure your privacy is protected during the scan.

If you brought someone with you to your appointment, you will have the option to bring them back to see the ultrasound, if you wish.

After the ultrasound, you and your advocate will meet to go over your Personalized Solutions Assessment. This will let you know specifically what resources are available to help you and may include things like getting health insurance, housing, finding a doctor, and more.

If you are undecided following your appointment, you will be invited to come back for another visit as many times as you wish as you consider your options.

We will also invite you back if we can’t confirm a viable pregnancy. It may be that you are too early in the pregnancy or that you have had a miscarriage.

Our follow-up coordinator will contact you after your visit to see if there is anything else we can do to help you.

We promise that you will always be treated with respect and compassion every time you come to Your First Look.

The photo here shows members of our Patient Services Team, including the director, the intake and follow-up coordinators, and patient advocates. These are an amazing group of women who are here just for you.

As we see patients each day, we note that many women have questions and concerns regarding their health–both physical and emotional, after an abortion.

Here are some ways to take care of yourself after an abortion:

Eat healthy food.
Get plenty of rest.
Drink lots of water and other healthy fluids.
Wait at least one week before engaging in any strenuous exercise.
Avoid lifting heavy objects for a week.
Take all of the antibiotics that were provided to you.
Avoid vaginal insertions for at least two weeks. This includes sex and tampons.

If you are feeling any sadness, guilt, grief, anger or anxiety following your abortion, post-abortion support is available through Your First Look. Give us a call at 419-720-3338. - See more at: http://yourfirstlook.org/abortion-taking-care/#sthash.VkOpjLrx.dpuf

Here are four good reasons why Your First Look is your best, first choice if you are considering abortion:

1. Verify Pregnancy at No Cost to You

A pregnancy test is not conclusive. The test responds to a hormone your body releases when you are pregnant, called HCG. However, close to one-third of all pregnancies end in natural miscarriage. Though your HCG levels may still be high, you may not have a viable pregnancy. Ultrasound is the earliest means of detecting a viable pregnancy. Your First Look provides ultrasound services at no cost to you.

2. Find out Gestational Age at No Cost to You

The gestational age of your pregnancy will determine the type and cost of the abortion procedure you would be eligible to receive. Ultrasound also provides this information at no cost to you. You will know this information is accurate as we allow you to see the ultrasound if you so choose.

3. Protect Reproductive Health at No Cost to You

Because abortion is invasive (even using the RU486 abortion pills), consider your future reproductive health. If you have an STD, it may travel through your cervix (which must be opened for an abortion). This could cause PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease), which is not only painful, but could cause infertility. Most abortion providers may not offer this service prior to your abortion.

4. Save Money

Abortion providers, even those that are non-profit, charge for all services. Though non-profits use a “sliding scale” based on your income, you will have to pay out of pocket. Medicare does not cover abortions in Ohio or Michigan and most insurance companies also do not cover abortion procedures.

Your First Look is a non-profit organization, and is free and confidential for everyone–no matter what your circumstances. We don’t require your social security number or your financial status. Abortion providers require both. We are here to assist you with accurate medical information and important facts so you can make an informed decision. Because we do not preform or refer for abortion or profit from any choice you make, there is no pressure. We inform, you decide.

Your First Look is your best, first choice if you are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy and are considering an abortion. Knowledge is power.

About one in three abortions occur in the first six weeks of pregnancy. The problem with this statistic is that you can’t confirm if a pregnancy is viable (living in the uterus) until six weeks and one day from your last period. This means that many women who do not have viable pregnancies are having needless abortions.

At Your First Look we will offer you a free ultrasound to confirm that your pregnancy is viable which is important to do before you have an abortion. About 31 percent of early pregnancies naturally terminate due to miscarriage, blighted ovum, ectopic pregnancy, etc.

Waiting until you can confirm viability at six weeks one day will not change any of your options.

Call Your First Look at 419-720-3338 to schedule your free pregnancy test and ultrasound. You can also text us at 567-455-1101. - See more at: http://yourfirstlook.org/confirming-viability-prevents-needless-abortions/#sthash.Hd45BQKu.dpuf

Before Your abortion or any type of medical procedure, a good doctor will use the following steps:

Assessment
Diagnosis
Discuss Treatment Options
Treatment
Follow-up
The best decision is an informed decision, made after you have all the information available to you about your current health as well as the impacts of all your options.* If you are pregnant, it’s important to take the following steps before deciding between abortion, adoption, and parenting:

Receive a Health Assessment - It’s important to determine your overall health prior to any medical procedure. For example, the risk for complications with an abortion increases if you have an STD.
Get a Clinical Pregnancy Test - Although the accuracy of home pregnancy tests is high, a medical professional needs to confirm your pregnancy.

Determine Viability and Gestational Age - A positive pregnancy test does not guarantee a viable pregnancy (one that will continue). Did you know that 1 in 5 pregnancies end on their own before 7 weeks? Also, because the risks associated with each type of abortion increase the farther along in you are, it is important to determine the gestational age of your pregnancy. An ultrasound is the only accurate way to determine viability and gestational age.

Treatment Options Discussion - Your provider should discuss all of your pregnancy options with you and answers all of your questions, free from bias, pressure or judgment.

These services are medically necessary before any abortion procedure, and are all available for FREE at Your First Look.

Come to Your First Look  first–the best decision is an informed decision. Schedule your free pre-termination evaluation today.

Many women call to ask, "Can I get a free abortion in Toledo?" The short answer is “no,” free abortions are not available in Ohio. Medicaid does not provide free abortions in Ohio or Michigan. However, there are free services available through Your First Look that you will want to get before you have your abortion.

Your First Look Women’s Center is a non-profit organization that provides free pregnancy testing, free ultrasounds, and free STD testing for Chlamydia and gonorrhea. Why do we do this? We care about your safety and future health.

With any unwanted pregnancy, it is important to ask yourself the following questions:
• Am I really pregnant?
Did you know that 31% of pregnancies end naturally?
• Is it important to find out how far along I am?
Yes. Fetal age determines what type of abortion you are eligible for.
• Can I get an abortion if I have an STD?
Some abortionists don’t offer STD testing and treatment, but having Chlamydia and/or gonorrhea can significantly increase your risk of developing pelvic inflammatory disease.
In order to have accurate answers to these questions, you need a clinical pregnancy test, ultrasound, and STD testing. You can get these questions answered and more at Your First Look Women’s Center. Plus, we’ll help you in a caring, safe, and confidential environment.
