The Internet Strikes Back #OpMegaupload

The Department of Justice announced Thursday that it has conducted a major action to shut down MegaUpload, a popular file-sharing site widely used for free downloads of movies and television shows.Within minutes of the site being shut down, and DOJ releasing its statement, Anonymous sprang into action and started taking down a ton of sites -- including websites for the DOJ, the US Copyright Office, Universal Music, the RIAA, the MPAA and a bunch of other sites.

Anonymous launches largest attack ever, crippling government and music industry sites. Hacktivists with the collective Anonymous are waging an attack on the website for the White House after successfully breaking the sites for the Department of Justice, Universal Music Group, RIAA and Motion Picture Association of America.

Many members of Congress have just changed their stance on the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, the raid on Megaupload Thursday proved that the feds don’t need SOPA or its sister legislation, PIPA, in order to pose a blow to the Web.

Bravo, keep up the good work. Much admiration directed towards your cause.
dont b fool that ip has nothing to do with megaupload just fake
nice. the empire strikes back
thank you, the people of the internet thank anonymous for all you have done! You have got my support
The government can't do what they want on the internet like they are doing in real live. Cause the internet is our legacy. We are billions and they are just a room filled with stupid fools! Thx +Anonymous I really appreciate what u are doing!
the former law says that the inventor got a fixed time to make money with his invention. after that time nobody gotta pay to the inventor. i think this is a good system. megaupload only supplied old things.
As some people are commenting....a Web Wide War? Forums are full of people commending freedom of speech, information etc. We need to make these voices be heard...this is too important to ignore.
I just wanted to say that what you guy are doing is actually amazing and you are the voice of the people. Keep up the good work.
We love you guys, we depend on you, expect us!
Most of these sites are up, did i miss it?
Lyrics from a song that I find very suitable.

One by one, they fall;
To insure, liberty.
Freedom fighters, raise your fists;
To insure, Victory.
This life, is a battle;
We will fight, to insure (to insure).
They can't take what's in our hearts,
It's all that we truly own

They'll try to take (try to take),
What's really ours (really ours).
They'll never take (never take),
What's in our hearts.
I;m very against SOAP and PIPA but some of the sites that are said to be shut down are working fine
stupid action .. u can not stop this .. u will only push people to invent new UN-stopable technology !! .. remember napster .. and we get p2p .. :) ...
anonymous are saying too muchwithout doing anything
we are just watching clips they don't do anything they are just saying
"we are anonymous we are ..."
HA! Serves them right. “A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!”
― Thomas Jefferson
What can i say... thank you Anonymous, thank you.
Is anyone here knows the founder and owner of Megaupload and his past? Or anything that was taken down is good by definition? :)
You said in your video a few days ago the government has no right to regulate the internet, so what gives you the right?
Whats next? Dropbox? mediafire? Megaupload also was removing pirated software...
Love you guys. Those fuckin' terrorists,Fuck 'em all...
Seriously? I don't know a single person that went to megaupload for a legal, non-infringing way. This does prove that our current copy-right laws are sufficient, but I cant say that I support Anonymous's strategy of "lets go attack all who disagree with us"
aaron taggart is my best friend na name nu va chapu
The Internet is structurally decentralized and expandable using relatively low-cost technology, as opposed to all previous centralized broadcast systems. Not to say that we should stop fighting tyranny, but the Internet is fundamentally un-ownable. If it is a computer, it will be hacked. DOJ, MPAA, RIAA, etc. need to know that they are not invulnerable. Don't f*ck with us and we won't f*ck with you. Contribute to your own, home-town fiber-optic-to-the-curb overbuilds and Mesh-Wifi networks. Host your own web sites. Be producers, not consumers. Let freedom ring!
I was wondering when I'd start hearing about this war. May freedom of the individual win. I wonder why we still depend on a system designed for a world of limited resources in a world of infinite resources? I guess we just plain haven't figured out how to handle this change yet.

( For some reason this video comes to my mind: )
We will fight SOPA and WIN!!
Why the White House? they came out against SOPA and PIPA. even if you don't agree with their other issues, I think you should support the White House's stance against censorship.
+Javier Niizawa That's true to, democracy needs to win. Not that either the representatives or the masses should rule, but the individual people. Government, economy, networks, or a resistance, these are all tools which need to be wielded by the people to promote freedom of the individual. A resistance easily becomes a tyranny. Neither side should be considered right, but both should be means in the people's hands for achieving what is right, and for allowing the individual to live the life he considers right without trespassing on another's attempt at doing the same.
I don't agree with a lot of what anonymous does, but the internet should never be controlled by the government. For once...good job.
I commend their willingness to fight the good fight, however, I get the feeling that these attacks will only cause a response by lawmakers to put a tighter noose around our ability to use the internet freely in America. I mostly believe this because sometimes the government is self centered, and if they are seen to be weak they will strengthen themselves above all else to prove they aren't, leaving us (the citizens) behind.

I did get a rather nice lul when I heard about the attack though.
The government has been around much longer than Anonymous, and have had way more practice getting what they want. It wouldn't surprise me in the least. Besides, it's their job to step on the people to ensure they're living comfortably.

I saw a thing once that said, "Start paying Congress minimum wage, and see how fast things change." They're sitting there with their big paychecks, their big houses, their fancy clothes, and their impunity from illegal stock trading. I wonder what their excuse is. Why they have to ensure they have it better than everyone else in the country. The only answer I can come up with from sitting in my poor man's chair is that they're greedy and selfish. I can't argue that. It is human nature after all.
Anonymous guys your are only hope!
Anon is NOT our only hope. This is still a democracy and therefore is still OUR gov't. Everyone who supports Anon in this or is against SOPA/PIPA, contact your representatives, join in protests, DO ANYTHING to get your voice heard by those who represent the people. Cause an uproar or nothing will be done.
May the force be with you..
Someone explain to me under what provision that the fed moved in to shut down megauploads?
They put a hold on SOPA / PIPA , but they have are already been doing what those laws would give them the ability to do! Hmmmm something about that doesnt make any sense!
+2 wins for the greater good: SOPA / PIPA put on the shelf, and illegal download site shutdown. This is a good day.
kim schmitz probably needs some help.

Can't believe that the FBI can just ask New Zealand to have someone arrested.
"Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty."
Ha! Its about time the government gets what it deserves!
I ask you all if what has been done outside of the law is supporting our way of life and the freedoms we have on the internet, or whether all it is actually doing is tightening the belt at which we hang those freedoms?
Awesome Work guys now tell me why do , , and still WORK?!
"Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty."
What exactly is the goal here? I hate to be the one to say it, but if I am reading it correctly the goal it to intimidate through violent action - that is to motivate by fear, or terror. Do we want an environment where decisions are motivated by fear of whether Anonymous approves or not? I hesitate to even hit "Post comment" because of this. What if Megaupload is guilty? What if they knowingly broke the law? At what point are people held responsible for their actions? Discuss...
So allegedly MegaUploads servers are/were hosted in Virginia, thus making the US prosecutor step in with the charges. However, MegaUploads was not uploading the "pirated" material themselves. So can they be the ones really charged?

Why don't things like this get solved in civil court first? It seems like hollywood has been using the fed as their own personal police.
It is crazy. I remembered last year when I used it when we had videos of classroom presentation videos we needed to share. I don't see this company being the abettor or accomplice though it may rely on traffic and ads like many other sites including Google. Maybe movement should shutdown USPS, UPS, Fedex and DHL since criminal can use them to deliver mail bomb. Or just shutdown the international and domestic bank transfer and settlement. No more wire-fraud forever then.
We all need to take back control of our Government, the real FREEDOM starts here!
why people doesn't just use bittorrent?
if at first you don't succeed, call in an air strike. or in this case when governments try to take away freedom kill their sites until they stop :)
awesome, good job! i want to help the cause! =)
Most of the people commenting on this are idiots.
The problem with the attempted legislation is not that it intends to stop/slow down pirates, but that the power given can be interpreted so generously as to infringe on our rights as American citizens.
+Dwayne Harris, "Web Developer" lol :-)
Keep up the good work guys :D
I'll take the red pill, keep it up!!

Kim is not a devil, it's just a nerd who tested the millonaire life, the luxury and the non-stop party, so he get lost into that. Megaupload is a good idea, but it has been corrupted. It must to be restarted IMO
