The reason why I'm so opened about my mental health issues is because I want people to know that help exists and that being depressed or anxious is NOT synonymous to being crazy or mad. People of african origins like the Caribbeans and African-Americans have a tendency to view mental health as secondary. But, let me ask us this: if we suffer from diabetes or high blood pressure, don't we seek medical help? So, why are we so reluctant in seeking medical or professional help when we are mentally affected by depression and other mental illnesses? If we are incapacitated how can we take care of our own? How can we work properly? How can we grow? Yes, we are strong and it does take a strong person to admit he/she needs help! Not treating our mental wounds and not taking care of ourselves is what true weakness is about! #MentalHealth
