A very trendy restaurant in a very trendy part of town, this sprawling restaurant has a french bistro vibe. The food is pretty spectacular and the people watching isn't too far behind. The only negative I can really say about this place, is that they are a little into themselves. Rather than answering a question about how the wine tasted, the waiter spent two minutes telling us about the wine's organic origins, how they serve it from the tap meaning that no oxygen touches the wine and so on. To be honest, I lost track after a while. In spite of that, I really cannot say enough about how good the food was and how much I enjoyed the meal otherwise.

The food is terrific. They have the best pickles in the city and the quality of your meal and over all experience is amplified by the tremendous service. The food is worth it and a burger here and aat brother jimmys costs about the same.

Food (we had brunch) was overall very good if not exceptional. Nice sourdough bread was badly toasted - charring is not toasting. My burger was at the upper end of the quality of NYC burgers but I could buy one just as nice (with similar 'decent' bread) for approx. $10 in a variety of bars. Serving sizes look decent for other items which we saw going by - e.g. salads looked nice. Place was fairly busy but not overly so - service was a bit haphazard and slow. I think they were training up a few other servers which will help - it is a very large area to serve so it might always be tricky to get the service up to the standard suggested by the quality of the food and decor.

After not being able to find the bar with the vaunted view, some friends, my wife, and I ended up at the Standard Grill for Saturday brunch. We started with some of the specialty cocktails including the sunrise and the bloody mary and enjoyed both. I opted for steak and eggs, our friend for the strip steak, and the girls for the turkey club. Unfortunately, when the food arrived, after a long wait, it was a disaster. The fries were all ice cold and both steaks were incredibly dried out and overcooked. When we informed the waitress, she was very apologetic and immediately sent it back and we got new steaks and fries. This time they were excellent. Nice and moist and cooked correctly. The service in general was good, if not over attentive. Bonus points for taking care of the mistakes so quickly but I don't know why it took so long in the first place. Food as mentioned, was very good and made for an excellent introduction to NY brunch for our friends. The atmosphere was also very good and somehow a good mix of pastoral and art deco style.

The food is good, if not great, and the place looks nice. But the reason for the low rating is due to one thing: Noise! When this place is packed, which seems to be all the time, it is so lound we had to yell at eachother to be able to hear what the other person said. For this one reason, I wouldn't recommend this place for dinner.
