Leading biologist and militant atheist Richard Dawkins turns on fairytales saying they foster a belief in the supernatural.

“I think it's rather pernicious to inculcate into a child a view of the world which includes supernaturalism – we get enough of that anyway,’ the 73-year-old said.

“Even fairy tales, the ones we all love, with wizards or princesses turning into frogs or whatever it was. There’s a very interesting reason why a prince could not turn into a frog – it's statistically too improbable.”

The scientist claims he saw through the myth of Santa Claus even at the young age of 21 months.

"My mother has recorded in her notebook that I was at a Christmas party and there was a man called Sam who came as Father Christmas, all 'ho ho ho'. All the children were enthralled by this. Then he left, I piped up much to the consternation of the adults, 'Sam's gone'."

Richard Dawkins says parents should not read fairy stories to their children as he claims they are harmful to their education by instilling a false belief in the supernatural

Storynory is a website and podcast with beautifully read audio stories for kids - all free.
Introduction
Storynory is an online treasure trove of  free audio stories delivered as MP3s.   It is both a website and a podcast. Natasha Lee Lewis is the voice most closely associated with Storynory.  She has been telling stories for Storynory since the service started in November 2005.   She is joined by Richard Scott and Elizabeth Donnelly.  The original story strands include Prince Bertie, Katie the Witch, and Astropup.  There are Greek Myths and fairy tales from around the world.   Full audio books include Alice in Wonderland, the Wizard of Oz, The Secret Garden, and Pinocchio.  Poems and original music are very popular with listeners too.   The voice of Gladys - a girl who wants to become a pop star - is sung by Gabriella Burnel.
