Something really interesting from our science fiction's past: USS Enterprise's very first officer (Number One) was a woman (in the very first Star Trek pilot "The Cage"). This is an absolutely fascinating article on how badly a woman in command was received back in those days.
"When we started out in '64, um, I was playing Number One, which was a woman second in command of a starship. Now that was innovative, but of course NBC got ahold of it and 'You've got to get rid of the broad. No one will bel...

8 April: International Romani Day

Attitudes towards Roma are negative, even more negative than towards other ethnic minorities. In a survey, around a quarter of Europeans say that they would feel uncomfortable having a Roma neighbour, "a striking difference to the level of comfort with a person form a different ethnic origin in general". Participants were presented the "neighbour scenario" and asked to rate how comfortable they would be with various neighbours (10 = highest level of comfort). Two extreme examples: The average score in Poland, where 58% would feel comfortable and 12% uncomfortable, is 7.5. The average score in the Czech Republic, where 9% would feel comfortable and 47% would feel uncomfortable, is 3.7 (Eurobarometer, 2008).
8th of April is International Romani Day, a day to celebrate Europe's largest and highly vulnerable ethnic minority group, a day to raise awareness for the discrimination, exclusion, isolation and challenges they face when it...

"Here lie the ashes of Dorothy Parker (1893–1967) humorist, writer, critic. Defender of human and civil rights. For her epitaph she suggested, 'Excuse my dust'. This memorial garden is dedicated to her noble spirit which celebrated the oneness of humankind and to the bonds of everlasting friendship between black and Jewish people. Dedicated by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. October 28, 1988."

Beautiful posting

"Oh, man, there were parts of the South that wouldn't show 'Star Trek' because this was an African American woman in a powerful position, and she wasn't a maid or tap dancer."

"It didn't hit me at the time until somebody told me. I splashed onto the TV screen at a propitious historical moment. Black people were marching all over the South. Dr. King was leading people to freedom, and here I was, in ...

Introduction
Florian Satzinger was a student of well-regarded Disney, MGM and Hanna-Barbera animator and animation director Ken Southworth («Alice In Wonderland», «Woody Woodpecker», «Tom & Jerry», «The Flintstones», «Peanuts», «The Smurfs») who influenced him greatly. Having worked for clients that include Red Bull, Warner Bros., ReelFX and Disney, Satzinger is now developing Toby Skybuckle© with France and Japan based Ankama Media Group and John Starduck© with Tigobo Animation Studios. Besides his industrial career, he holds a lectureship for character design, analog animation and animation history, in collaboration with Maryam Laura Moazedi, at the University of Applied Sciences, Salzburg.
