Someone banging on again about home battery storage.

Will they never stop?

(Go on, You know you want to - there are plenty of suppliers and brands coming into the market to make the industry more competitive for homes, apartment buildings and businesses)

New photos of our slowly, slowly evolving landscape and home design in Currumbin Valley on the Gold Coast.

The pavilions to the home are linked by courtyards and stepping decks.

These spaces become places of their own: allowing the house to feel comfortable with less internal area.

Are the smoke alarms up to date in your home or rental property?

Or a place you are renovating, or building, buying or selling?

Smoke alarm legislation requires everyone to bring their alarms up to standard over the coming years.

This applies, even if you are not otherwise doing any building or renovating works.

See more info here including what's required, and by when

New photos of a home we designed for a client in Burleigh.

The ground level kitchen and living area wraps around to an undercover entertaining zone and pool.

Will be uploading more of the images to our website.

Thanks to +Fotomedia for the images, and Montalva Constructions for the build

Review of home battery install at our own place, 4 months in...

It seems in very simple terms - for us, a home battery with 5kW PV array looks like it will pay for itself well within the warranty period.

But... it depends significantly on how you live, how much energy you use and when, and... what costs you do and don't include. (of course)

For example: we don't count the cost of purchasing the plug in hybrid electric car (on the basis that we'd not have counted it if we didn't have a battery - ie we were buying a car anyway)

BUT we do count the savings in petrol which we make every day by not having to fill'er up at a petrol station.

We will have to update again after winter when we see how dramatically both our generation, exports to the grid, and energy use change as the weather changes.

We are excited to announce we have recently been awarded the Royal Institute of Something Award for, um, for this house.
Of course, we weren’t really awarded the award. And…Oh, we didn’t design that house, which isn’t a house.
But we’re excited to make the announcement none the less.
Just wanted to see how these “alternative facts” thing works – please bear with us as we get up to speed.
Conflicts of interest and integrity: are so, like, last century. Not like coal. Coal is the new ‘black’.
Oh, PS – I’m getting wind burn from the entirely normal record-breaking heat wave hot air from the weekend. The heatwave was caused by the SA wind turbines which are warming up the air, and speeding up the winds. They are also uglier than coal mines. Because, science.
Hey, that DOES feel good.
(Disclaimer: we weren't here when this was written and don't believe any of it.)

Wow. Look at those colours in the clay soils.

Looks like an oil painting, thickly applied.

8.30pm. Lights on and watching tv. (Quality ABC viewing of course).

Home battery is still pretty full and...

We are exporting power to the grid (at night) rather than drawing from it.

Battery hasn't run out yet before being recharged in the morning.

Can't afford to buy the land to build your dream house on? Well... build yourself an island first, then build the house.
A floating one.
By hand (no power tools allowed).
Of course, why didn't we think of that?
