In 2017, the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation is going to celebrate its 10th anniversary. In order to mark the event, we decided to launch the first ever nonfiction edition of our annual creative writing seminar in Sozopol. The call for applications is currently open. Closing date for submissions: March 6, 2017.

This year's leading faculty includes: ELIZABETH KOSTOVA (US), author of the novels "The Historian" (2005) and "The Swan Thieves" (2010); KAPKA KASSABOVA (BG/NZ/UK), author of the novel "Villa Pacifica" (2011), as well as the biographies "Street Without a Name" (2008) and "Twelve Minutes of Love: a tango story" (2011); JOSH WEIL (US), author of the novella collection "The New Valley" (2009) and of the novel "The Great Glass Sea" (2014); and ELENA ALEXIEVA (BG), author of the novels "The Blue Stairway" (2000) and "Knight, Devil, and Death" (2007).

2015 New Literature from Europe author Alek Popov's novel "The Black Box" reviewed by British author and director of The National Academy of Writing in London Richard Beard. "The Black Box", winner of EKF's contest for translation and publication in English (2013), came out in the UK by Peter Owen Publishers earlier this year. Read the novel's review here:

The Elizabeth Kostova Foundation is pleased to invite you to the annual Krastan Dyankov Translation Award Ceremony (2014).

✎ About the award:
------------------------
The annual Krastan Dyankov Translation Award was established in 2007 and will be given for the eighth time this year. The award is granted for an outstanding translation of a contemporary novel of high literary quality from English into Bulgarian. The original edition in English must have been published after 1980, whereas the translation in Bulgarian, between 1 January 2013 and 23 September 2014. The main Krastan Dyankov Translation Award amounts to BGN 3000. Since 2009, the foundation has also given a special (encouraging) award equal to BGN 1500. Every literary translator whose translation meets the award criteria could be nominated.

✎ About the event:

The shortlist of the translations, nominated for the award, will be published on the website of the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation, www.ekf.bg, on 24 November (Monday) 2014, and the award ceremony will take place on 27 November (Thursday) 2014, 7:00 PM, at the American Corner of Sofia City Library, 4A Slaveykov Sq., Sofia. In order to RSVP, please contact Simona Ilieva at silieva@ekf.bg. Admission to the event is free.

✎ About Krastan Dyankov:

Krastan Dyankov (1933-1999) was a renowned Bulgarian translator from English into Bulgarian. He translated works by numerous important 20th century American authors, among them John Steinbeck, John Updike, Erskine Caldwell, John Cheever and William Faulkner.

The award is supported by the America for Bulgaria Foundation, the Lois Roth Endowment, the US Embassy in Bulgaria and the Culture of Wine Foundation.

✎ За наградата:

Годишната награда за превод „Кръстан Дянков” е учредена през 2007 г. и ще бъде връчена за осми пореден път тази година. Наградата се дава за превод от английски на български език на съвременен роман с висока литературна стойност. Оригиналното издание на английски език трябва да е публикувано след 1980 г., а преводът на български език между 1 януари 2013 г. и 23 септември 2014 г. Голямата награда „Кръстан Дянков” е в размер на 3000 лева. От 2009 г. фондацията предоставя и една специална (поощрителна) награда в размер на 1500 лева. Номиниран преводач може да бъде всеки, чийто превод отговаря на изискванията на наградата.

Кръстан Дянков (1933-1999) е преводач от английски език, на чиито преводи дължим познанството си с едни от най-големите образци на американската литература на ХХ век: Стайнбек, Колдуел, Чийвър, Ъпдайк, Милър, Сандбърг и Фокнър.

Наградата се реализира с подкрепата на Фондация "Америка за България", Луис Рот Ендаумънт, Посолството на САЩ в България и Фондация „Култура на виното“.
