Hi all, I have a little trick that I discovered just today and wanted to share it with you.
I found an easy way to convert the subdivision surfaces, in to nurbs surfaces.

To do this you need two free programs ' FreeShip_Plus ' and another to convert VRML format ' 1 '
First you need to export your files from Blender, eliminating the subdivision modifier and export to obj with the Z axis at the top, after using the program "meshconv" to convert from obj to wrl.

Open ' FreeShip ' and import the VRML format 1 of your object and go to export in IGES and you're done you'll have the nurbs surfaces generated from the cage of your mesh object.

Then import your IGES file with FreeCad and export it in STEP to others CAD

Usage: meshconv -c wrl -vrmlver 1 blender-file.obj

Confused about Creation Workshop - Hi, I cannot seem to get a grip on what Creation Workshop really is. I am interested in downloading it to get acquainted with my future DLP/SLA workflow, but what is Creation workshop currently? If I Google for it, I get to http://www.envisionlabs.net/ which says there is a Linux version, but also says I should instead go to their new home at http://www.datatree3d.com/ - I did, and I contacted datatree3d which told me a price, a download link for a trial, and said there is no Linux version. With the download link I get some windows desktop software that according to some posts could run on Linux - http://www.buildyourownsla.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=97 - but I could not do it with mono on my Ubuntu 16.04. Is this the same creation workshop?

But there is also the creation workshop github repositories which redirect to a "Photonic3D" repository from user area515 https://github.com/area515/Photonic3D which has something like a web-based DLP controller and slicer with a very different interface from the one we see in youtube videos. And there is also the recommendation to go to http://photonic3d.com which has some incomplete docs and lots of open-source claims.

Where is the REAL Creation Workshop? Is it open-source or not? Does it work in Linux or not? How can it be open-source with a trial version? Why so many completely different sites for a single software? Can someone clear up my confusion? +Steve Hernandez

Oh, COME ON, Richard. What a HUGE disappointment. You were always a proponent of open-source software, of access to knowledge and such, and now you are not only endorsing, but developing education for a rather EVIL proprietary slicer? One that has an EULA forbidding reverse engineering (now, they can copy slic3r's idea of XY compensation, but it seems the opposite is not true, right?) and forbidding you to share its output? What made you turn to the dark side this way? I am shocked, even considering the latest slic3r's and cura's latest improvements are amazing (slic3r: much faster slicing, adaptive slicing; cura: 2.3.x out, conical supports, wireframe printing, fuzzy skin, per-object settings like slic3r, and many others) you preferred teaching the proprietary one, the one whose slicing algorithm is precluded from being known from mankind, the one which does not work in ARM devices nor has a command-line to be used independently.

No, I won't buy your cursed course. I will do anything but to ask people to stay away from it. It's true that you have a great many contributions to the community. It's false that a "contribution" which restricts freedoms deserves any kind of appraise. I am also going the other way: with the horror of seeing someone like you turn this way, I feel even more motivated to do what's right and not sell my own convictions. I also develop 3d printing education and I will fight the most to help people get out of the proprietary trap.

You just make me raise a BIG concern: you are the head of the OpenSLA project. Suddenly I do not feel confident about you keeping this stuff open anymore.

Trying lost PLA casting with aluminium and failing horrendously. I wish I was a wizard-like 3d printing hacker like +Julia Longtin. Note: this was supposed to be an yodabuddha!
