Mexican Oregano May be Effective against the Herpes Virus.

Division of Infectious Diseases
Greg Bennett, CBCD

Older studies have shown that the essential oil of the Mexican Oregano plant, which is used medicinally and in cooking, has antibacterial properties. A new study showed that this oil is also antiviral. Dr. Marciele Ribas Pilau and colleagues wrote that “we investigated the antiviral activity of the essential oil of Mexican Oregano and its major component, carvacrol, against different human and animal viruses.” (1)

They found that “Mexican Oregano oil and its main component, carvacrol, are able to inhibit different human and animal viruses in vitro (performed or taking place in a test tube).” (1) Importantly, the authors of the study noted that “Mexican Oregano essential oil and its main component, carvacrol, were effective against RNA and DNA viruses. This dual efficacy has advantages over common antiviral drugs, which generally act on only RNA or DNA viruses or may even be specific to a single virus or group of viruses.” (1) Dr. Pilau and colleagues are from the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria in Santa Maria, Brasil.

The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) reminds the public that while oil of Mexican Oregano has proven antibacterial properties, there have been no clinical tests in humans, which show an anti-herpes virus effect. The CBCD therefore recommends that HSV infected individuals take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The formula of these natural HSV remedies was shown to reduce herpes symptoms in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.

The formula of Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin formula is effective against the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 and HSV-2), and other viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs.  Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with the HSV … reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with Gene-Eden-VIR.” (2)  The study authors also wrote that, “we observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (2)

Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are natural antiviral dietary supplements. Their formula contains five natural ingredients: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose was chosen through a scientific approach. Scientists at polyDNA, the company that invented and patented the formula, scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses. To date, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support their claims.

In the Mexican Oregano study, Dr. Pilau noted that “It is important to emphasize the antiviral activity of Mexican Oregano and carvacrol against HHV-1 (also known as HSV-1) sensitive as well as HHV-1 resistant to acyclovir. Since any compound showing a SI=4 was considered a potential antiviral candidate to herpesviruses, the Mexican Oregano and its major component carvacrol fulfill the requirements for both HHV-1 sensitive as well resistant to (a leading herpes drug).” (1) In other words, oil of Mexican Oregano was effective in vitro against HSV-1, the oral herpes virus that causes cold sores and fever blisters even when the virus is resistant to leading anti-herpes drugs.

Based on the results of Dr. Pilau’s study, the CBCD urges further research into the antiviral properties of Mexican Oregano.

What treatments are currently available for a herpes infection?

“Two types of antiviral treatments against HSV are available: topical and oral. The treatments include penciclovir, acyclovir, famciclovir, and valaciclovir. However, their effectiveness is limited. For instance, a meta-analysis of five placebo-controlled and two dose comparison studies evaluated the effect of aciclovir, famciclovir or valaciclovir on symptoms. The meta-analysis showed that oral antiviral therapy decreases the duration and the associated pain of an outbreak by merely one day.” (2) There are also the natural anti-HSV remedies, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR.

New Oral HCV Drug is Expensive; CBCD Reviews a Report
Industry: Health & Fitness

Gilead Sciences (GILD) developed an expensive oral drug against the HCV virus, according to Forbes.com. (1)The CBCD recommends Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.

“Infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV)? The CBCD recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

Gilead Sciences’ new drug against HCV is a combination, “once-a-day” pill. It is made up of two previous Gilead Sciences drugs. “It was approved by the FDA in Oct 2014, making it the first once-daily single tablet regimen for the treatment of chronic HCV genotype 1 infection.” (1) However, though effective, the new drug is incredibly expensive. Forbes.com notes that “the cost of Gilead’s first generation Hepatitis C drug … which costs $1,000 a pill and more than $84,000 for a course of treatment has triggered 35 states to require prior authorization before Medicaid patients can get the drug, according to a report from Washington-based consulting firm Viohl & Associates. Gilead today said (the drug’s) price will be $94,500 for a 12-week course of treatment.” (1) In other words, the new HCV drug is $10,000 more than Gilead Sciences’ previous drug for a course of treatment!

As Forbes continued to note, the cost of these HCV drugs “are hitting Medicaid health insurance programs for poor Americans particularly hard because the population of patients in need of Hepatitis C treatments tends to have low incomes and wouldn’t be able to afford the drug otherwise. Medicaid is funded by state and federal tax dollars and administered by state governments.” (1)

“For those infected with the latent HCV, we recommend Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The formula of these natural HCV remedies was proven to reduce hepatitis C symptoms in a post-marketing clinical study that followed FDA guidelines.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

To date, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support their claims.

According to Forbes, “It’s unclear exactly how Medicaid programs will deal with Harvoni or the coming wave of Hepatitis C drugs also expected to get Food and Drug Administration approval from Abbvie (ABBV), Bristol-Myers (BMS) and Merck (MRK).” (1)

Additionally, because of the extremely high cost of HCV drugs, “several states, including Arizona, have implemented a “once in a lifetime” rule that allows Medicaid patients one opportunity at treatment with (the drug). Alaska requires the patient candidate for (the drug) to abstain from using drugs and alcohol for at least three months. Then, the patient has to submit to a urine test to verify being drug free. West Virginia only allows a board certified gastroenterologist, hepatologist or infectious disease specialist to prescribe Sovaldi. Several states won’t pay for any (drug that is) lost or stolen. Illinois, which requires patients to meet more than two dozen criteria before they get (the HCV drug), will only dispense the drug for two weeks at a time for a total of 12 weeks.” (1)

What other treatments are currently available against the HCV virus?

Until recently, “the combination of a pegylated interferon (IFN)-α and ribavirin (was) the standard treatment for chronic HCV infections. This combination is effective in about 80% of the individuals infected with the HCV genotype 2 or 3, and in about 40% – 50% in those infected with genotype 1 or 4. Lately, two new drugs were approved, telaprevir and boceprevir, with better results. However, the combinations of pegylated interferon (IFN)-α and ribavirin and telaprevir or boceprevir are associated with additional side effects, increased costs, and more complex treatment strategies.” (2) There are also newly approved drugs including those from Gilead Sciences.

“We believe that poor individuals infected with the latent HCV need an effective and safe remedy. We want Medicaid officials, and doctors across the United States to become aware of Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR, which are two effective HCV remedies designed to be affordable by most individuals.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

Vitamin C Injections May be Effective against EBV; CBCD Reviews Medical Studies

A study found that an injection of vitamin C reduces replication of the EBV virus. (1) CBCD recommends two other natural EBV remedies.

“Infected with the EBV virus? The CBCD recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

A study showed that high doses of vitamin C delivered to a patient through an IV reduced the levels of Epstein Barr Virus DNA detected in the blood. Dr. Mikirova and colleagues wrote that “Our clinic has been long interested in the use of vitamin C (ascorbic acid, ascorbate) to combat viral infections. Ascorbic acid is an essential nutrient that functions as a key water soluble antioxidant and is involved in synthesis of collagen, carnitine, and neurotransmitters. It affects wound healing, energy metabolism, nervous system function, and immune cell health. Oral supplementation with vitamin C typically gives rise to plasma ascorbate concentrations less than 0.2 mM, while high dose intravenous infusion of the vitamin can raise plasma concentrations higher than 14 mM.” Dr. Mikirova and colleagues are from the Bio-Communication Research Institute in Wichita, USA. In simple terms, Dr. Mikirova’s study showed that a high concentration of vitamin C, that can only achieved through injections, boosts the immune system against the EBV virus. Unlike vitamin C that requires injections, the natural oral supplements Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR, which can be taken by mouth, were shown to reduce symptoms of Epstein Barr Virus infections in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.

The formula of Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with EBV…reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with Gene-Eden-VIR.” (2) The study authors also wrote that, “We observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (2) In addition, this natural antiviral was recently proven to reduce mental and physical fatigue in a post-marketing clinical study that followed FDA guidelines.

To date, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support their claims.

Dr. Mikirova wrote that “the motivation for using intravenous infusions of vitamin C (IVC) to treat viral illnesses comes, in part, from observations that virally infected patients exhibit vitamin C deficiency. This in turn suggests that clinical management of viral infections may benefit from supplementation. Improved recovery of subjects with viral infection upon supplementation with pharmacologic doses of vitamin C has been observed clinically.” (1)

“We agree that vitamins are essential to good health, and for a strong immune system. However, we also believe most people with an EBV infection will prefer not to have injections of vitamin C. We therefore recommend that infected individuals take the oral supplements Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

What other treatments are available against the EBV?

“A few antiviral drugs are available that were shown to inhibit EBV replication in cell culture. These drugs include the acyclic nucleoside analogues aciclovir, ganciclovir, penciclovir, and their respective prodrugs valaciclovir, valganciclovir and famciclovir, the acyclic nucleotide analogues cidofovir and adefovir, and the pyrophosphate analogue foscarnet. However, clinical studies have shown that these drugs are mostly ineffective in humans.” (2)

In light of the above information, the CBCD recommends that individuals infected with the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.

HPV Found in Eyebrow Hairs in High Numbers; CBCD Examines the Medical Evidence

Eyebrow hairs contain higher numbers of the HPV virus than in any other part of the body. (1) The CBCD recommends Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR against the latent HPV virus.

“Infected with the human papillomavirus (HPV)? The CBCD recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

A German study found that eyebrow hairs harbor high numbers of the human papillomavirus (HPV). Dr. Schneider and colleagues wrote that “the highest number of HPV prevalence was detected in 84% of the eyebrow hairs compared to 47% of AK lesions (a type of skin cancer sore), and 37% of normal skin, respectively. A total of 228 HPV infections were found in eyebrow hairs compared to only 92 HPV infections in AK and 69 in normal skin.” (1) Dr. Schneider is from the Department of Dermatology at the Skin Cancer Center Charite in the University Hospital of Berlin, Germany. Not all HPV types cause genital warts. Some infect the skin elsewhere, and can lead to certain types of skin cancer. The HPV types found in eyebrow hairs are those that usually do not infect the genital area. They include HPV20, HPV23 and/or HPV37. The public should be aware that the HPV vaccine does not protect against these types of HPV. (2) The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) therefore recommends that individuals infected with HPV take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The formula of these natural antiviral products was shown to reduce HPV symptoms in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.

The formula of Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. Scientists at polyDNA, the company that invented and patented the formula, scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses.

“Hair follicles are very likely the natural reservoir of cutaneous HPV types and are easy to collect.” (1) Some scientists speculate that the numbers of HPV in eyebrow hairs may help doctors to predict whether a person will develop certain types of skin cancer. (1).

Are there treatments available against the HPV?

“There are no drugs approved against the HPV. Current treatments include procedures, such as cryotherapy, conization, and the Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP). These procedures use liquid nitrogen, a surgical knife (scalpel), a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, or electrical current to remove the abnormal growths caused by the HPV. These growths include cells that harbor the active virus. The procedures do not target cells with the latent virus. Since they do not remove the latent virus, these procedures only produce a temporary remission.” (2) In contrast, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR were designed to target the latent HPV.

“Most treatments against HPV are designed to alleviate symptoms associated with genital HPV infections. We believe that individuals infected with other HPV types should take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. These products were designed to help the immune system target the latent form of the human papillomavirus, regardless of the HPV type.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

Herpes Virus Can Lead to Mouth Cancer; CBCD Examines the Medical Evidence

Studies show that the herpes virus can transform normal mouth cells into cancer cells. (1) The CBCD therefore recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.

“Infected with the herpes virus (HSV-1 or HSV-2)? The CBCD recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

A few viruses, including the herpes virus (HSV-1) can cause mouth cancer. Other viruses are the human papillomavirus (HPV), and adenoviruses. “Of these, HPV and herpes have been the most thoroughly studied and are now considered to be the most likely ‘synergistic viruses’ involved in human oral cancer.” (1) In this context, “synergy” means that the cancer transformation is dependent both on the virus and certain known carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals). As the Oral Cancer Foundation notes, herpes simplex virus DNA has been “demonstrated in oral carcinomas. The hamster cheek pouch model has been used to evaluate the role of herpes simplex virus (HSV), and reports indicate that HSV can act synergistically with chemical carcinogens to initiate oncogenic (cancer causing) transformation in this animal model.” (1)  The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) therefore recommends that infected individuals take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The formula of these natural antiviral supplements was shown to reduce HSV symptoms in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.

Healthline.com notes that sometimes, mouth sores caused by herpes can also be confused with sores that indicate oral cancer. It is therefore important to diagnose any mouth sores. “Mouth sores-which include canker sores-are a minor irritation and last only a week or two. In some cases, however, they can indicate mouth cancer or an infection, such as herpes simplex virus. (3)

The CBCD recommends that HSV infected individuals pay attention to the following signs of possible oral cancer: “ulceration of the oral mucosa persisting for more than three weeks, and oral swellings persisting for more than three weeks. All red or red and white patches of the oral mucosa. The level of suspicion is further increased if the person is a heavy smoker, heavy alcohol drinker, aged over 45 years or male.” (4)

“Individuals concerned about the relationship between HSV and mouth cancer should take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The formula of these natural HSV remedies was designed to help the immune system target the latent form of the herpes virus.” – Greg Bennett. CBCD

What treatments are available against the herpes virus?

“Two types of antiviral treatments against HSV are available: topical and oral. The treatments include penciclovir, acyclovir, famciclovir, and valaciclovir. However, their effectiveness is limited. For instance, a meta-analysis of five placebo-controlled and two dose comparison studies evaluated the effect of aciclovir, famciclovir or valaciclovir on symptoms. The meta-analysis showed that oral antiviral therapy decreases the duration and the associated pain of an outbreak by merely one day.” (2)

There are also natural remedies that studies show to be safe and effective in reducing herpes symptoms. Two of these products are Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR.

Professors at an Irish University Developed a New Test to Detect Herpes; The CBCD Reviews a Report

“Infected with the herpes virus? The CBCD recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

An Irish research team has developed a test that detects the presence of the herpes virus faster than previous methods. “At present, the most definitive HSV-1 test involves cell cultures but results can take up to a week to complete.” (1) The new test devised by Dr. Gil Lee and colleagues at University College Dublin “uses beads, composed of iron oxide nanoparticles, coated with peptides that bind to the virus. As the nanoparticles are also superparamagnetic, a simple magnet can accelerate their aggregation and the way in which these aggregations scatter light is measured and used to indicate an infection.” (1) Dr. Lee said that “We knew that a magnetic bead assay had the potential to be very sensitive based on our previous work with Dengue (a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus).” (1) The CBCD praises the efforts of Dr. Lee and his colleagues. If diagnosed early, individuals infected with the herpes virus can have a more positive outcome with the use of antiviral therapies. The CBCD recommends two natural remedies with a formula shown to effectively reduce HSV symptoms in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.

How does the new test work?

The new test does not require an immune response to the herpes virus. Peptides (amino acids joined by a chemical bond) capture copies of the virus, and are attracted to a simple magnet. This makes the new test simpler, and faster, than previous tests to detect HSV. “Peptide receptors are central to the method’s success. While antibody recognition is integral to many diagnostic tests, they require the patient to have had a previous immune response to the virus, so peptides that capture the virus itself therefore offer a convenient and inexpensive alternative. The fact that these beads aggregate increases the sensitivity of this method to 200 copies per ml of sample and enables it to complete within minutes rather than hours.” (1)

What treatments are available for a herpes infection?

“Two types of antiviral treatments against HSV are available: topical and oral. The treatments include penciclovir, acyclovir, famciclovir, and valaciclovir. However, their effectiveness is limited. For instance, a meta-analysis of five placebo-controlled and two dose comparison studies evaluated the effect of aciclovir, famciclovir or valaciclovir on symptoms. The meta-analysis showed that oral antiviral therapy decreases the duration and the associated pain of an outbreak by merely one day.” (2) There are also natural antiviral remedies, like Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR, which were designed to help the immune system target the latent HSV.

HPV and Sex Toys; CBCD Examines the Medical Evidence
Industry: Health & Fitness

A study found that 89% of Vibrators tested positive for the presence of HPV immediately after use. (1) The CBCD recommends Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR against the latent HPV.

“Infected with the HPV virus? The CBCD recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

HPV was found on almost all vibrators immediately after infected women used them, according to a recent study. Importantly, even after cleaning, HPV was found more than half of those same vibrators. “HPV was detected in the vaginal samples of (75%) women. Vibrator 1 shaft swabs were HPV positive before cleaning in 89%, immediately after cleaning in 56%, and 24 h after cleaning in 40% of those that were HPV positive immediately after cleaning.” Another study supported these findings.  “Researchers gave 12 women two vibrators each and detected the virus immediately after self-use on at least one of the vibrators used by all nine participants who tested positive for HPV.” (2). Dr. Teresa Anderson said “Sex toys used between partners within the same sexual encounter have the potential for transmitting HPV (2).”  Because HPV can cause genital warts or lead to various forms of cancer, The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that HPV infected individuals take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The formula of these natural antiviral products was shown to reduce HPV symptoms in two post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.

The small study from the Indiana University School of Medicine mentioned above was conducted with female participants who “had engaged in sexual relations with both a man and a woman during the prior year.” The study did not question whether participants had been vaccinated against HPV. “The investigators gave each woman a cleaning product, one vibrator made of thermoplastic elastomer – known as a “Rabbit” – style vibrator – and another made of soft silicone. They asked participants to swab the vibrators after vaginal use, immediately after cleaning and 24 hours later. Nine of the participants tested positive for HPV, and the virus was detected on at least one of the two vibrators given to each of them. Just after use, HPV was found on all but one of the thermoplastic vibrators and on six of the nine silicone vibrators (2).”

In addition, researchers found that “even after cleaning, the researchers detected DNA from HPV on five of the thermoplastic vibrators and four of the silicone ones. The silicone vibrators responded better to the cleaning after 24 hours. The researchers did not detect the virus on any of the silicone vibrators a day after cleaning, but they did find HPV on two of the thermoplastic sex toys (2).” Researchers believe the difference could be because one material is more porous than the other.

Dr. Jeffrey Klausner said “When people are intimate, they’re going to share viruses and germs… it probably would make sense for people not to share their sex toys (2).”

Importantly, “the medical community once thought that women who have sex with women were at low risk for HPV. But studies have since shown HPV infections are common among these women (2).”

Are there treatments or remedies available against the HPV?

“There are no drugs approved against the HPV. Current treatments include procedures, such as cryotherapy, conization, and the Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP). These procedures use liquid nitrogen, a surgical knife (scalpel), a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, or electrical current to remove the abnormal growths caused by the HPV. These growths include cells that harbor the active virus. The procedures do not target cells with the latent virus. Since they do not remove the latent virus, these procedures only produce a temporary remission.” (3) In contrast, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR were designed to target the latent HPV.

The CBCD therefore recommends that women infected with HPV take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.

Genital Warts: How Long Do They Last? CBCD Examines the Evidence
Industry: Health & Fitness

The immune system of healthy individuals can bring the HPV virus under control in about two years. (1) The CBCD recommends Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.

“Infected with the human papillomavirus (HPV)? The CBCD recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD

According to WebMD, “Genital warts can show up weeks or even months after sexual contact with a person infected with an HPV virus. That person may not know he or she is infected and is responsible for HPV transmission.” (2)  The CDC notes that “Genital warts usually appear as a small bump or group of bumps in the genital area. They can be small or large, raised or flat, or shaped like a cauliflower.” (1) They can take up to two years to go away in those with a healthy immune system. The CDC uses the term “cleared.” The public should be aware that this term can have two meanings. 1. The immune system forces the virus to go into a latency phases. That is, the virus is still in the body but does not cause standard symptoms. 2. The immune system kills all the HPV viruses in the body, and there are no copies remaining. In the second case, only a new infection will re-introduce the virus to the system. In the first case, any deficiency in the immune system may allow the virus to reactivate.

Dr. Natalie Sieb wrote that “just because the wart is gone, this does not mean you have gotten rid of the virus that caused them.” (3) Dr. Sieb is board certified in Family Medicine in Madison, Wisconsin. The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that infected individuals take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The formula of these natural antiviral products was designed to help the immune system target the latent HPV virus.

“If genital warts show up, it’s an indication of HPV infection … sometimes there is a single wart; other times multiple warts appear. They can be small or large. They can be on the anus, cervix, scrotum, groin, thigh, or penis. Genital warts can show up weeks or even months after sexual contact with a person infected with an HPV virus.” (2) If left untreated, genital warts may go away, stay the same, or grow in size or number.
