You're right. If I'd seen the movie I'd know the answer to my questions. But I skipped the movie because I didn't buy its premise. Kip Thorne is brilliant, but wormholes are thought to be both extremely dense and extremely small, making travel through them improbable. The ships in Star Wars don't use wormholes, so I have no problem with them. Just don't try to sell me the science behind those ships, because it won't hold up either.
