Authors Can Pitch Books & Learn from Industry Experts at Ozarks Writers League Conference

Local writers seeking publication can learn from industry experts and pitch their books to a literary agent and a publisher at the Ozarks Writers League (OWL) quarterly conference August 18-19 in Branson.

The Talcott Notch Literary Agency represents literary and screen fiction and nonfiction authors. Founder Gina Panettieri will take pitches and speak. The agency has placed books with well-known publishers such as St. Martin’s Press, McGraw-Hill, and Berkley. She represents nonfiction, upmarket women's fiction, historical fiction, dark fantasy, psychological suspense, and crime fiction.

Sourcebooks Senior Editor Anna Michels is also speaking and hearing pitches. She is particularly interested in strong narrative in memoir, literary thriller, mystery, and psychological suspense.

Other workshops are, “Using Flash Fiction to Tighten Your Writing” and Your Own Personal Brand.”

The Ozarks Writers League conference happens Friday night and Saturday, August 18-19, at the Honeysuckle Inn and Conference Center in Branson, Missouri. Hotel reservations are available. Conference attendance is free for members and $10 for non-members. Lunch is available with advance order.

Friday night at 7 PM, attendees can hear authors read a short excerpt from their work. Anyone wanting to read may do so by prior arrangement. Afterwards, guests can visit with other writers. Saturday’s sessions run from 9-3, with registration beginning at 8:30. Pitches take place throughout the day.

Several OWL contests provide opportunities for recognition and prizes. The writing contest categories include haiku, science fiction, and best book of the year. Entry deadline is August 31.

The annual Art and Photography Contest offers artists a chance to win ribbons or cash prizes for their mounted photos and art, as well as alternative art such as weaving. Full details and rules are posted on the OWL website. Entrants must be members, but joining at the August conference entitles anyone to enter.

Visit OzarksWritersLeague.com for details and to register.
