Could the pending confirmation of the new #NRC chairman mean there is hope for a permanent nuclear waste repository?

President Obama's nominee for chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Dr. Allison Macfarlane, took questions from a Senate panel on Wednesday. I listened to part of the session and wrote a story for this week's POWERnews (http://www.powermag.com/POWERnews/Macfarlane-Likely-to-Be-Confirmed-as-NRC-Chair-and-Svinicki-to-Gain-Second-Term_4718.html).

Apparently, Macfarlane sees New Mexico's Waste Isolation Project (WIP) as a good model for deep geologic storage of nuclear waste.
