My talk on VM efficiency & energy footprint of whole cloud services delivery chain was well-received @RoyalSociety yesterday. :) Actually got a bit of a debate going despite it being the last one of the day! #RSsustcomp (at Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester)

Alt-coins: Bitcoin’s competitors. Which cryptocoins will survive? http://ktscm.net/alt-coins-bitcoin-competitors-which-cryptocoins-survive/
I've not written much about my new hobby; cryptocoin (Bitcoin and its ilk) mining. A few months ago I created a virtual company, CipherMine, to mine cryptocoins

Buggeration. :( I caught it in my backpack strap, the wrist strap disconnected from the watch (the pins are on springs) and it pinged off my wrist and hit the pavement. Instashatter. :( Still works though at least... although I do now have little glass splinters in my finger!

Only had it about a week. I think it is a new personal record for breaking a shiny. :'(

I'm trying to make a QR code that can act as my biz card but which I can update (eg. a hyperlink to a file which I can periodically amend as my details change) so I can get it tattooed. I tried making a vCard (Microsoft's contact entry format) but my Android phone doesn't appear to know how to handle it; just displays it as a text file. Is there a better, more generic format I could try?

I point my QR code to http://edent.tel/ - that'll download a vcard for those devices which support it.

Good analysis, Kate. It explains the kind-of-obvious bear market in mcxFEE right now, although any expertise at trading anything would have strongly hinted that it was a bubble that would inevitaby pop. I'm amazed it ran up to ฿1/share so quickly, to be honest.

A real SCUBA rescue experience, putting my skills to the test – mistakes made and lessons learned:

http://ktscm.net/real-scuba-rescue-lessons/
On my and Izzy's recent fieldwork expedition to Islay we had a number of challenging conditions to cope with that were new to us as experienced SCUBA divers.

Story
Introduction
For full details see my personal Web site or my blog, Kate's Comment.

I am co-founder and managing director of Memset Ltd - one of the UK's leading Web & IT hosts. Memset and I have won a number of awards, and I pop up in the press fairly regularly for a number of reasons.

Outside my work, my main interest areas are energy & the environment (especially green IT), encouraging more girls into technology, and campaigning for improved care for trans-children.

My hobbies include motorcycling (I have a Ducati Desmosedici RR  :), SCUBA (PADI Rescue diver), sailing, Alpine and cross-country skiing, and hardware hacking (specifically, BOB).

I'm also in the final year (ish) of a part-time PhD attempting to answer the question of whether Moore's Law will be mitigated by Jevon's Paradox in relation to ICT's carbon emissions .
