A beautiful, heartbreaking, hopeful film. If you think the beagle below is cute, wait til you see the cow...
Movie review: The documentary engagingly argues against seeing creatures who feel fear, pain and joy primarily as resources for food, clothing and research.

Started watching the Tour de France because of Lance Armstrong. Followed his rise, lamented his fall. This documentary on the downfall is absolutely fascinating. The best and worst of it in one tidy package.
Critic's Pick: It's riveting to see Lance Armstrong in action, whether on a bike or in denial, in Alex Gibney's 'Armstrong Lie.'

Found myself taken by the performances and the style of this unsettling indie -- "Blue Caprice."
Critic's Choice: Betsy Sharkey writes that 'Blue Caprice' —based on the 2002 Beltway sniper shootings — is a smart dissection of the criminal minds behind the attacks.

If you have a taste for the macabre....
Review: Creepy tension works under your skin until the cannibalistic chiller 'We Are What We are' builds to horror galore.

Who doesn't like a good leek joke! The film's a veggie-centric hoot. Read on....

From Toronto, some musings about Radcliffe post Harry Potter.
TORONTO — I really like the way Daniel Radcliffe is navigating his post-Harry Potter world, moving between stage and screen, throwing himself into all manner of projects. He’s got several films at the Toronto International Film Festival , but the one I caught up with last night, “The F Word,” was a real kick.

I find I'm drawn to films about working class struggles anyway. This one is so well crafted, Naomi Watts and Matt Dillion are terrific as down-market lovers.
Movie review: Watts and Dillon shine as a pair broken by fate and poverty in the dark drama 'Sunlight Jr.'

There are some nice moments, but not enough of them. As one of my kids used to say -- shoulda been more better….
Movie review: Filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee reunites the ensemble from 1999's "The Best Man' to resolve lingering issues and hash out new ones in a heartfelt but uneven effort.

Jeanne Tripplehorn takes some direction from co-star, significant other and 'Morning" filmmaker Leland Orser.
In 'Morning,' Leland Orser directs himself and real-life wife Jeanne Tripplehorn as a couple who lose their only child.

Love Gordon-Levitt's work -- even when he's addicted to porn. "Don Jon" turned out to be a nice surprise.
Review: 'Don Jon' lays bare a naked truth: A romantic comedy built around porn can be insightful, clever and good, raunchy fun.

Best way I found to deal with the sensory overload of the festival at Toronto -- find a film that brings you a bit of Zen...
TORONTO -- At a film festival, when you’re hoping to cram 20 or more movies into a week of nearly nonstop watching, by about Day 4 your brain goes into a fog -- all the faces and the stories start blurring together. I made it to Day 6. And then ...
