I love where I work. Normally things are busy, yet runs smoothly. However, we had a guy leave when the main office moved. He took care of our SCCM (auto update, PXE boot) servers.
He was really a great guy to work with. I don't know how he was with others; with me he would listen and help about any day or night. His replacement... is an ignorant, cocky, dumbass that can come up with every excuse why something doesn't work rather than fix the problem.
Case in point: TVA shut our power off to work on a sub-station transformer. So, we had to shut our servers down. When we brought them back up, PXE booting won't work.
For three weeks, my boss and I tried to get the new guy to check and make sure all the services were running. "No, it is the drivers for the NIC card."
WTH?!?!? Now a PC has special drivers to operate from the BIOS? Then it was several other ideas, all the while, we keep asking him to check the services.
Finally, I ask good ole Mr. Google to show me a list of pages where people talk about the services needed to run SCCM. Guess what. That's right. Three (3) necessary services are not started.
I started those services, and mysteriously, I suppose through some Harry Potter type magic, "the BIOS drivers were updated" because everything started working again.
His boss while talking to my boss the other day said something to the effect of, "So, your SCCM is working again I see." To which my boss replied, "Yes, after Scott Googled to see what services needed to be running. Those services we've been trying to play by the rules and get your guy to check and keep getting excuses from."
She told me there was nothing but silence for nearly a minute. I suppose he was chewing his tongue to not call the new guy all the names the rest of us globally call him.
I don't want to see the guy lose his job. He just needs to be reassigned to a position he is actually qualified for. And oh, how I wish it was possible to get the original guy back. But he has another job already. Happy for him, sad for us.
steps off soap box Thanks for listening to me rant. I just had to say it to get it out of my system.
