In the spring of 2008, Sam’s father Rob committed suicide. Two and a half year later Sam struggled with depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, considering suicide. She got help from Children’s Hospital’s Psychiatric unit in College Hill, where she was provided with counseling and medication she needed.  She also met other children suffering with mental health issues.

Interested in studying abroad? NKU Social Work program are coordinating a trip to India this coming December. They will be visiting the Guild for Service, which strives to change centuries of injustice and cruelty towards widows in India. Dr. Giri has served as Chairperson of the Guild for Service since 1979 and is renowned both nationally and internationally for her committed work in empowering women politically, socially, legally and economically.

The Northern Kentucky University Department of Communication will present the second event of the inaugural Spring Communication Speaker Series on Thursday, March 15, at 12:15 p.m. in the Griffin Hall George and Ellen Rieveschl Digitorium.

Dr. Vincent Waldron’s lecture is titled “Good Work: Communicating the Moral Emotions in Organizational Settings.” This talk will be based on information from his new book, Communicating Emotion at Work (Polity Press, 2011) – see feature article in the Arizona Republic from February 20, 2011. He is professor of communication and associate director of social and behavioral sciences at Arizona State University. His research and teaching focus on communication practices that make relationships satisfying, lasting and good – in the moral sense of the word.
