"Vegetarian food for carnivores" has been the Grit's slogan, and it fits. The food is occasionally unusual but always tasty. While the menu offers some interesting choices, I'm usually happier when I order from the daily specials or veggie plate items. The Grit is notorious for poor or indifferent service, but that's something I've experienced on very rare occasions, although it apparently happened to the previous reviewer.

This is one of the restaurants in Athens that you really should go out and experience for yourself. The menu rotation is top notch. I think there is always something for everyone. I love the quality of food here a lot. Sometimes the food is rather heavy and can upset my stomach. Save room for the desserts they have available and you will not be disappointed.

When ever I visit Athens to see my daughter, we enjoy dining at The Grit. While I am not a vegetarian, I enjoy the the fact that this restaurant has a minimal, but delicious menu. If you like wine, they are more than happy to help you make a selection that fits your tastes. Also, the wait staff set a welcoming atmosphere . Breakfast is my favorite.

I only got to enjoy one meal at The Grit but I was surprised at how tasty it was! I order The Gyro which was stuffed with seitan that was flavored with delicious spices. Only down side was the plan corn chips as a side. I could have been eating the meal wrong and should of stuffed the chips in the flat bread yet I doubt that was the case. Maybe a side of salsa would of complemented the chips.

Food Was cold. Not as described on menu. Plate charge for a birthday cake. Unfriendly waitress. Person who seated us made us wait for one of my party to come in from parking till we could sit. I've been going to The Grit since 1989. This will probably be my last visit. :(

A vegetarian experience that doesn't leave you feeling cheated. Great menu rotation, weekly noodle bowls, customized vegan desserts. Tim & Jonathan are great; good service & friendly atmosphere.

The regular menu looked a touch "boring" maybe? Then we saw the specials. The omelette with mushrooms and pesto was amazing. Banana pancake and a blueberry pie slice to finish it off. Awesome.
