Happy Monday! Start your work week out right by taking a look at your workspace. Follow Erik's tips to avoid posture related pain at work.

• Use your chair backrest. Avoid sitting upright/erect at the edge of your seat. Using your backrest and relaxing your back muscles decreases compression through your spine.

• Keep both feet flat on the floor. If your feet cannot touch the floor, use a ream of paper (or 2) to keep your feet flat on the floor.

• Your knees should not rest above the height of your hips. If they are, raise your seat height.

• Support the weight of your arms on your chair’s arm rests. Elbows are ideally bent at a right angle (90deg). This allow you to relax the muscles in your shoulders and neck area.

• Sit directly in front of your monitor.

• The top of the monitor screen should be at eye level, approximately an arm’s length away.

• Take a 5 minute break every hour. Get up and move every 30min. Set a timer to remind yourself.

While many professionals are highly skilled in various forms of body conditioning, this class series offers a unique approach to movement and exercise that promotes movement system balance and muscle training specificity, including the trunk and both upper and lower quarters of the body. MSPT offers a unique course for exercise providers in the wellness indurstry called, Foundations in Movement System Balance for Optimal Health, Wellness & Fitness. This course combines anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology and the theories of Shirley Sahrmann, PT, PhD, FAPTA.
