Seacoast Gallery in Carlsbad Featuring Artist Jackson Finn. This shot was taken on crisp winter morning after some high tide carved a small channel into the beach. As the tide went out the water drained from the attached lagoon making a rather unique composition. If you look closely you see the surfer catching a small right.

In this piece I feel I was able to depict the first light of the crisp morning colors through artist’s eyes. Rather than capture the view, I wanted to focus on capturing the feeling and mood of this calm morning. I’d spent the earliest hours of the morning going for a sunrise surf. It was my favorite part of the day, this moment; Sitting on the sand with my salty cold skin being warmed by the newly risen sun and the remaining adrenaline still swimming in my veins. I was completely awake with the ocean and the day was as fresh as the cool water. The cool crisp colors in this picture really capture that feeling of gentle clarity that this morning brought. The brisk silvers you see were created from the ocean water rushing into the lagoon, that’s why the strokes of sand and earth lay before the foreground becomes sharp blue ocean once again. This piece just ignites a gentle exhilaration for me, the calmness that I seek when starting my day.

This has treasured spot for me under this bridge. The towering concrete columns reaching out into the ocean. The geometry is the perfect contrast the unbreakable waves. As someone who relishes in sunsets over the water, I seem to forget that reflection of color over the water is simply that, a reflection. I’m so used to looking out and seeing such vibrancy on the water that it’s easy to believe the water itself is painted orange or red. In this image it looks as if someone painted the columns down into the bright orange ocean. I am so drawn to massive clouds sailing over the beautiful sunset, pulling with them the royal blues of the night sky.

This image was taken out on the Del Mar Jetties toward Camp Pendleton. This piece is titled “Little peaks” for the way the two caps of the swell seem to resemble a small mountain range. I caught them right as they were beginning to roll back out into white water, creating this crisp edge at the top, like the peaks of two mountains. The clear lines in the waves make them seem to loose all motion, transforming it from a snapshot of a rushing wave, to a still-life of a steady landscape. My favorite part of this piece though is actually the two small hidden treasures. If you look closely you can the lone seagull flying off toward the horizon, toward the even less visible naval ship in the background. It’s subtle, yet ominous appearance is a clear contrast to the joyful picture of the two waves depicted.

Swami’s Sky- This image was taken during the same indian summer as Encinitas Tree-line, but here I really wanted to focus on the rich colors of the sunset. As californians we are blessed to frequently see the deep reds and pinks brushed through our sunsets, but we rarely see this range of bright yellow to deep purple so early in the evening in the fall. The entire sky was painted in every color. I wanted to focus on the clouds and how they so perfectly reflected the color beneath them, and seemed to break up the smooth sky without hiding any of it’s beauty

Bamboo Forest - I took this image on a hike through the bamboo forests on our way to one of the most magnificent waterfalls in Hana. The dense forest of swaying bamboo chutes make for a beautiful image. It was like walking through nature’s musical instrument listening to the wind whistling through the chutes as the clinked together, and the hearing all the wildlife that was hidden away in the forest. The air was sweet and the whole scene was hypnotic to every sense. I only wish I could have captured more than just the visual beauty of this forest.

Cardiff Light- I captured this image one evening after an especially long surf session. The sun was setting but the sky kept this warm golden light, it looked more like the early hours of the morning sunrise than an afternoon sunset so golden and warm it felt like midday. The water reflected the yellow sky so clearly it felt as if I was surfing on liquid gold. This image is just full of warm surfer’s bliss and nature's unpredictable beauty.
