We had the pleasure of meeting one of our featured artists from the Open Space exhibit, Carol Burt. Carol is a professor at Ball State University and has been an artist her entire life. She is this week's #MyMinnetrista.

How long have you been submitting your work in Open Space?
Carol: "My first piece was in 1992."
What inspired you to enter your artwork?
Carol:"My students! I want to show them I am a professional artist, too."
How did your interest begin in pottery?
Carol:"I was originally a painting major, but I had to take a pottery class during my masters and I fell in love."

Thanks for sharing your story, Carol. We love the impact art has had on your life and the inspiration you continue to share with others. See Carol's piece in the Open Space: Art About the Land exhibit now until October 15.

This week #ArtifactFriday has landed on American Business Women’s Day. One business woman we know a lot about is Margaret Ball Petty. Margaret and her husband Fred purchased Ball Stores from Ball Brothers Company in 1938. Fred served as president of the department store until his death in 1949. Margaret then assumed the presidency, running the business until 1965. Ball Stores was a beloved fixture in downtown #Muncie until its closing in 1986.

This #MyMinnetrista features some great members of the Exchange Club of #Muncie. Meet (left to right) Bob Beavers, Deborah Barker and Bob Chico.

How long have you been a part of the Exchange Club?
Bob Beavers: "I have been a member since 1988 and a former president of the club."
Deborah: "I have been a member since 2000."
Bob Chico: "I have been a member since 2013."
Why is Flags of Honor important?
Bob Chico: "It's an important event for the community because it allows everyone to recognize those who have served in our country's armed forces as well as within their own community."

We love having Flags of Honor at #Minnetrista and cannot thank the Exchange Club of Muncie for making this great event happen every year.

Did you know that we have four pianos in the #Minnetrista Heritage Collection? In honor of #NationalPianoMonth we thought we’d highlight this 1924 upright made by Bell Brothers Piano Company of #Muncie for #ArtifactFriday. And in case you haven’t tickled its ivories at Oakhurst, this beauty sounds as good as it looks!

Introducing Lindsey Cox in our latest #MyMinnetrista. Lindsey is the newly promoted Horticulture Specialist, she oversees the Rose Garden along with the Culinary Herb Garden.

Is there something you would want a #Minnetrista visitor to know about either of the gardens you work in?
Lindsey: "In the #RoseGarden, I always encourage visitors to smell some of the different roses because they all smell so different. What a treat!
I love to inform visitors that the Herb Garden is a community garden, so everyone is welcome to harvest herbs and seeds to try using at home. Using fresh herbs in cooking enhances dishes and the experience of both cooking and eating."
Is there a rose species you particularly like caring for?
Lindsey: "I especially enjoy caring for the Hybrid Tea roses in the circles around the gazebo. They vary greatly in color, shape, and scent!"

We love the work Lindsey is doing around campus and we're extremely pleased to have her on our team!

#NationalPeachMonth and #ArtifactFriday is upon us. While we do a lot of thinking about apples and cider here at Minnetrista, we also have a history of award winning peaches being grown on our property. Pictured here is Rowland Webb, manager of Minnetrista Orchards for 62 years. After taking over management of the orchard in 1917, Webb introduced several new varieties of apples to the area and cultivated fine peaches that were known to take home awards.

Meet the wonderful members of Patchwork (left to right) Holly and Rick Garrett that performed at Faeries, Sprites, & Lights. They are our newest #MyMinnetrista!

How many years have you been performing at Faeries, Sprites, & Lights?
Rick: "We're not exactly sure, but we think 6 years."
What do you like best about performing at this event?
Rick: "We love when the kids walk in and see their faces light up because someone is playing live music. We love exposing them to live music and music they can interact with."
Holly: "I love it for that reason, too. A lot of kids go through life hearing, 'Don't touch that,' but in here it's all about yes. I love that they are able to experience and experiment with music."

We absolutely love having Patchwork and watching them interact with all of our visitors. We love listening to their music, too.
