Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” -Jesus (John 11:25, 26 NIV)

The ChurchandCulture.org Team is excited to announce the official release of James Emery White's book The Rise of the Nones: Understanding and Reaching the Religiously Unaffiliated.

This book could not be coming at a better time, as the "nones" - the fastest-growing religious group of our day - are certainly on the rise. Currently one in five Americans identify themselves as having no religious affiliation. Dr. White's book explores exactly who the "nones" are, what caused this dramatic shift in today's culture, and most importantly how churches can reach these people.

Ed Setzer, president of LifeWay Research had this to say about the book:

In an era of increasing complexity and religious apathy, James Emery White has written a book that is helpful, informative, challenging, and timely. Those who care about communicating the gospel in this complex culture and think the church must regroup and re-engage should read "The Rise of the Nones."

"Keep the Son in your eyes!" -Victor Flores

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, FIXING OUR EYES ON JESUS, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." (Hebrews 12:1-3, Emphasis mine)

Are you tempted to give up? Do you feel like you're losing heart? Don't!

1. Follow Jesus by throwing off everything in your life that's not awesomely helpful to you and others.

2. Run the marathon God's laid out for you, and

3. Focus on Jesus who's running ahead of you. He will lead you to persevere through any and everything this life throws at you.

Do you know somebody who's struggling and wants to give up? Share this with them.

I heard about two different people last week alone who tried to commit suicide. Nobody saw it coming. Share this with those you think may need to hear this today.

Pray for those you call "friends" on FB today.

An excellent list of suggestions for parents. I hope to print up copies of this for folks in our church to consider.

God's Economic Plan

In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. (2 Corinthians 8:2 NIV)

God's economy has some interesting financial equations...

Take this verse for example. Here's how I'd write it out as an equation:

3T + 7J - $ = $$$

3T = Very Severe Trial
7J = Overflowing Joy (in Christ)
$ = Extreme Poverty
$$$ = Rich Generosity

This defies logic. It even defies religion (as man created it). Why in the world would people enduring "Extreme poverty" and "Very severe trials" give anything to anybody? Especially people they don't even know? And generously!

The answer lies within.

Overflowing joy.

That means this joy is pretty powerful. If we could share this joy, we could turn the world upside down. Oh wait...

So where did the joy come from?

God. See v. 1

And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. (2 Corinthians 8:1 NIV)

"Grace." Charis (Gk) - an unmerited gift.

God gave the Macedonians (Greeks) who were following him joy. (Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, Galatians 5:23)

They weren't joyful because of their circumstances. They were joyful DESPITE their circumstances. "Extreme poverty." "Very severe trials." There was no reason for them to be happy--much less joyful.

No, that was a gift from God.

And that joy motivated them to give when they were in extreme need--suffering.

That's what God's grace does.
That's what God's kingdom looks like.
That's what God's people do when they fully rely on him.

You can't out-give God.

What is God saying to you right now?

What are you going to do about it?

I come to this CFA at least twice a week. I've been coming for 3 years and the service is consistently good to great. I couldn't recommend it more! UPDATE: I've been coming for 8 years and it is the best Chick fil a restaurant I know. (And I've been to quite a few). The people are great (especially the morning and lunch crews).

Great sandwich. Nice ambiance. Very little seating though, unless you sit outside. Also very pricey. Service was nice.
