As someone who has been coming to Farm Sanctuary's Animal Acres for over 3 years, who was a former intern and has worked with dozens of interns since, I can safely and unequivocally say that the review below by Robin Stewart is completely backwards regarding way things are run at Farm Sanctuary's Animal Acres. The one thing she did get right is that the animals are pretty healthy, which amazing considering that many of them came from cruelty cases/situations and were in a poor sight when they arrived. This is a testament to the care provided by the interns and caregivers, of which there are currently 4 full time and 1 PT. There's also and farm projects employee that works alongside the interns daily, and 2 other full time employees that work in the office. One of the caretakers (yes, she's an adult) lives on site at the intern house. In regards to Robin's impression of AA, I think it's safe to say that she was misled and not given all the facts. Never are our horses ridden at AA, we believe that all animals exist for their own reasons, not to be used by humans (though the property's neighbors behave otherwise, raising horses and goats). Interns can't force other interns out, or ask them to leave, that decision would be made by the caregivers or the intern coordinator. It's unfortunate that Robin's son's girlfriend didn't fit in the internship she volunteered for, but as reviewer Sierra Lindon said, "The work at Farm Sanctuary is very labor intensive and the schedule is hard, but the rewards are priceless - you have to be on time and ready to work hard." I've volunteered well over 100 days there and will continue to do so. And yes, the rewards are priceless.

Very cool. Short tour but the animal experience is great for kids of all ages. Huge cows and pigs, goats and a turkey who loves attention.
