My family was in town for the weekend and I took them here for dinner. We though the food was relatively good, even though we've had better on Fed Hill. The reason for the one star is because of the rude waitstaff. After our dinner we were waiting for our valet and the waiter ran out and asked in a tone meant to intimidate my father and I, if the service was OK? It was apparent that he thought he deserved more than the 20% tip on $100+ dinner. I have never felt so disrespected at a restaurant before and I will certainly never be going back there.

My wife and I have been frequenting the Meditearraneo for nearly 17 years, bringing countless friends and relatives during this span of time. We have always walked away with a smile, a fantastic meal, and another great memory of dining. This evening, Giovanni was our server, and as with other great servers before him, like Manny, Domiano, and countless others, we were treated like royalty, served food fit for the Gods and left feeling special. Many things have changed, people have come and gone, but the premise of great food, and even greater service still stands strong..

My first and last time here...Despite the awesome decor and decent service, the food was disappointing and the management was even worse! The place looks laid back and inviting - indeed, it is. With all of the Italian places on Federal Hill, it can be tough making a decision. I come to Providence every now and then and have a few favorites, but we found this restaurant on Groupon ($30 for $70) and decided to give it a try. I noticed that the prices were higher than many other Hill joints, but we had the Groupon so I didn't care. The salad was straightforward, not bad, but nothing to write home about. The chicken w/ eggplant & prociutto came with "San Marzano plum tomato sauce", but I swear this sauce had to have come from a can. There were no chunks of tomato, no visible seasoning, and the sauce wasn't thick at all. It really didn't taste like sauce is supposed to taste - for a restaurant in the Italian part of town I though this was especially offensive. The rest of the dish was fine, but I really think that the sauce makes the dish. The worst part was trying to use our Groupon. We were a group of 3, but we neglected to notice that the Groupon was for "Four or more". Okay, our bad. We asked if the manager would let us use it anyway, but since it was our mistake, we offered to buy a fourth entree to go. Well, he said that since we were 3 people, we couldn't use the Groupon, period! No matter that we could buy another entree, as if there were 4 people. They must have this rule to ensure sales of a certain amount of food, so we were willing to order more - thus I don't know why they wouldn't let us use it. Disgusted by this and by the mediocre quality of the food, we just redeemed the face value and vowed never to return. Federal Hill has so many good Italian restaurants - don't sell yourself short by choosing this one!

I have been here several times over the past year. Food is consistent and very good. High quality ingredients including San Marzano tomatoes which offer a superior flavor to regular tomatoes. I usually seek this ingredient out at a restaurant; you know if its good if they spend that extra on the sauce. I usually get either the Tagliatelle Bolognese or the Veal Parmigiana. The bolognese is slow simmered meat sauce with traditional nutmeg spice. Veal is crisp and tender. Good food all around and what you would expect-classic Italian fare. I have used the Groupon regularly with no problems as long as you follow the directions on it. Decor/Atmosphere is OK but I go to a place for the taste, not how it looks. Remember-always ask for that shot of limoncello on your way out!

With plenty of excellent Italian places on Federal Hill, don't bother with Mediterraneo. The food is overpriced and mediocre and the beer selection is a joke (although the wine list is decent). More importantly, management is scummy. They wouldn't honor a Groupon that was on-time because they insisted we have a party of four. I offered to order two more entrees and was told "No". I offered to just accept the original value of the Groupon and was told "No". We've been there before on a weekend night and it's usually pretty quiet. This time it was packed (with Grouponers, as it expires this weekend). That should tell you something about the quality. Go elsewhere for your Italian food.

I had a great experience Meditearraneo is always consistent and that is what I look for in a good restaurant consistency. Very happy and will be back in the near future!
