Love this place! The doctors are so good about taking care of the animals and so friendly! It's top notch quality care and I can't say enough good things about the people that work there and all the care my dogs and cats have gotten in the last few years. OUTSTANDING!

Windmill is the best! We always enjoy our interaction with their friendly and joyful staff, and we feel that they take great care of our animals. Our animals never enjoy going to the vet, however the always seem comfortable at Windmill, and the folks there goes out of their way to make it a pleasant experience. Thanks Windmill!

Definitely one of the best veterinary clinics I've been to. The office is nice and clean. The receptionists are helpful, welcoming and polite. The vet tech was so sweet to my very timid and shy dog, getting down on the floor with him to make him more comfortable, and Dr. Price is extremely helpful and informative. You are given a typed estimate for services and asked to approve them before they do anything to your pet, so there's no surprises or hidden fees. She took the time to make sure I really understood what my dog needed and how to help him. Strongly recommend!

Was disappointed with my most recent visit. Had been there before a yr ago with my previous dog who is now past and had a good experience but I now have a puppy and felt differently this time. The cost is almost double as some of the other vets I checked with afterwards. After explaining the breeder provided the 1st round of shots and I wanted to do the 2nd round now it was frowned upon b/c I did not have a paper trail to show them for the 1st round. They seemed reluctant to treat my dog with 2nd round puppy shots and said they would make this her 1st round and I would be covered/protected if anything should happen to her. I just felt a bit pressure and uncomfortable. The said this would be part of a "puppy package" which they never explained any pricing during my visit. I had to ask the ladies at check out as I was paying what the next costs would be for the next 3 appts. of puppy shots. It was over $100 each visit. A $34 office was included w/ each visit for every round of puppy shots. I checked around to (2) other recommended Vets whom either had no office charge b/c it was just addl rounds of puppy shots ora much lower cost. I also asked a couple basic questions which I didn't feel I received adequate answers back. I do have friends who go here and like it. I suppose this just wasn't a good visit for me this time.

The attending Windmill veterinarian was also the veterinarian at Dyess AFB who worked with you with your previous pet. He remembered you well, and was delighted you had gotten your beautiful puppy. You were concerned with cost: Exam, vaccine & other services at Windmill are very competitively priced. Every puppy’s vaccine needs are unique; we do NOT offer a one-size-fits-all “Puppy Package.” Instead, each puppy has an individualized vaccine plan that will provide the protection that puppy needs, but NOT unnecessary vaccines. Being military, you’re used to going to the Dyess AFB veterinary clinic, which has extremely low fees due to government subsidy. It can be a shock to go from that massive 80% discount to paying “real-world” fees. You were frustrated with how we viewed Mia’s previous medical history. We have learned, through bad experiences, that if a breeder doesn’t provide documentation, there is a high likelihood no vaccines were given. In addition, vaccines given before 42 days of age may/may not work. According to the information you gave us, Mia’s breeder gave you no documentation, and the 1st vaccines date (2/19/15) was when Mia was only 39 days old—we simply couldn’t trust that Mia had received, & responded to, the 1st vaccines the breeder claimed were given. We are puzzled about your comment referring to “they never explained any pricing during my visit. “ It is strict Windmill protocol: a printed estimate is presented to the client, detailing anticipated costs; no services are rendered until the costs have been discussed to the client’s satisfaction & the estimate has been signed. A detailed estimate was prepared for you, which was discussed, & you signed. The only items on your invoice which weren’t on the estimate were the medication to treat your puppy’s diarrhea (the attending veterinarian discussed it thoroughly with you in the exam room--we understand you wanted to see if the diarrhea would clear up on its own, but the parasite your puppy has is contagious to people, and you have 2 children under the age of 10—for public health reasons, we’ve got to get the problem cleared up fast! The public health concerns for your puppy’s infection were also detailed on your departing instructions, printed at the bottom of your invoice), a free first dose of heartworm/flea prevention (which the attending technician and veterinarian discussed with you in the exam room), and a free 2 lb starter bag of puppy food (which was also discussed in the exam room). Your invoice also reflected a 10% military discount on services. A quick review of the 3 upcoming recommended puppy visits for Mia shows that you will be spending about $132/$110/$90. You indicate you’re unhappy with each visit including the well-puppy exam fee, as being unnecessary & just running up your bill. Puppies go from birth to adulthood in 12 months. Well-puppy exams are critical in detecting developmental problems as well as catching a myriad of puppyhood diseases early. Not examining a puppy after its first round of vaccines is like not examining a baby after it leaves the hospital—not a prudent idea! In addition, veterinarians in Texas are required by State law to verify any animal they’re going to vaccinate is healthy enough to vaccinate; therefore, at a bare minimum, vital signs should be assessed before any puppy is vaccinated. We were very distressed at your comment “I also asked a couple basic questions which I didn't feel I received adequate answers back.” We make every effort to answer every question, and make a point of asking our clients if they have any further questions before concluding the visit. However, there was a lot going on with Mia’s visit, plus managing 2 kids & a puppy; we suspect some questions you asked may have been missed by us, and some of our answers may have been missed by you! No worries, that’s what telephones and email are for, and we can also discuss them at Mia’s next visit. Thank you

They are amazing! We started using them not long after they opened and have absolutely no regrets. We live in the country and have quite a few cats and dogs. They always give the best, most compassionate treatment to our animals. Our parents recently moved into the area and have started taking their dogs and cat there as well. Good people, fantastic treatment options and care. Highly recommend!

I must start by saying for the most part we enjoyed the support at windmill; when I called for an emergency they had to check to make sure we were clients before they would help. WHAT KIND OF VET TURNS AWAY AN EMERGENCY BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T PAID THEM BEFORE! This isn't the first time one of my dogs has been sick while in Abilene and we had to work around Dr. Price's schedule. We are from the country and love our animals, but we "aren't good owners" because our "animals" do not know tricks. Most of the "medicine" and advice that Mrs. Price gave us was false and possibly dangerous. If you want more comment below

Thank you for the review, Mr. Adams. We are glad that your dog's crushed toe nail is now better. We would like to point out that we worked your emergency into a very busy day when there is only one doctor on duty. We apologize that you had to "work around Dr. Price's schedule"...but we ask you to consider if you would be able to get a same day appointment with any busy medical professional at a moment's notice. Again, because your pet's injury was significant and needed immediate treatment, we were able to work you into an already very busy schedule. If we had been unable to adjust our schedule to help your pet, which of our other clients, whom had made appointments, should we have kicked to another day? Dr. Price has an excellent medical reputation and 34 years of veterinary experience that your now-better pet received the benefit of. We apologize you feel the advice was "false and possibly dangerous". It certainly was not. Again, thank you for taking the time to review the treatment we were able to provide for your pet. As you said in our follow-up telephone conversation of August 4th (a day AFTER you posted this review, but before we had seen it), "Finn is doing great and does not seem to be bothered by the injury". We were pleased to hear this, but puzzled by this review without a mention of your concerns in person nor over the telephone....Readers - thank you for taking the time to read our response to this review.

It has been years since I have needed a vet. Other vets make me feel like just another cow in the herd, but not Windmill Animal Hospital. Great friendly staff, clean facility, and extremely fabulous service from the vet. I felt like the only customer of the day with the attention and care they gave to me and my precious yorkie!
