DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL!!! I had many issues at this hotel, but the most disturbing happened on my last night. I was eating dinner in the dinning room and to my horror I began to choke on a piece of food. I have no idea how it happened, but my airway was completely blocked and I couldn't breath. I couldn't stand, I was hunched over struggling for air. It was completely a freak accident. It could have happened to anyone at any point. But what horrified me was the response from the hotel staff. I was surrounded by at least 3 waiters, they saw I was in distress. I was banging on the table, I put my hands to my throat to indicate that I was choking, I tried to speak but couldn't. Instead trying to assist me, the waiters tried to remove me from the dinning room. At one point, one of them was pulling on my arm saying "Come outside ma'am! Come outside!" The hotel guests around me were telling them that I was choking, but they continued to try to force me out of the dinning room. I was terrified. I took first aid training about 15 years ago when I was in high school, and I know that is absolutely the wrong approach. I thought I was going to die. No one was helping me. Thankfully, another hotel guest intervened. She pushed passed one of the waiters, grabbed me and pounded on my back until the food dislodged from my throat. If it wasn't for her I would have died. I left the dinning room in tears and went directly to the reception to ask for a manager. He wasn't available. I told the two people at the reception what happened in the dinning room and they did not offer any further assistance or even ask if I was okay. The next day I met with the manager I recounted my experience from the previous night as well all the other problems I experienced at the hotel. I was disgusted and hurt when he explained that his male waiters "COULDN'T' assist me while I was choking because Tunisia is a Muslim country. Apparently, it's better to have a dead foreigner at their hotel, than for a man to perform first aid on a female hotel guest. Although the manager apologized for what he called my "impression that his staff wasn't being helpful", he maintained that his waiters acted appropriately and would do the exact same thing in another situation. I couldn't believe he was supporting his staff's mismanagement of medical emergency and would encourage them to discriminate against other women in the future. And what's even more interesting, is that the Muslim standards are applied in some situations and not others. On multiple occasions male staff members flirted and made sexual advances towards me. One of the men at the gate asked for my hotel room number so he could "VISIT" me during the night. On my first night one of the waiters asked me if I was alone. I said yes and he said while pouring me a glass of wine " Have some more wine and we can end the night together." This wasn't the only problem I experienced during my 4-day stay at the hotel. There were ants in bed, a housekeeper entering my room at 9am and did not immediately leave when I told her I was in the shower. She continued into my room and walked in front of the shower, I told her she was being inappropriate and had to leave. Each day it was above 30 degrees and there was no A/C in the hotel rooms. DON'T GO TO THIS HOTEL ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE A WOMAN TRAVELLING ALONE!
