The Resurgence Poetry Prize announcements (and winning poems) are now up ~

It is an honor to have my poem "Auguries" selected by a distinguished panel of judges (former UK Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion, Alice Oswald, and Jo Shapcott) for the inaugural Resurgence Poetry Prize, the world's first major award for ecopoetry.

Fellow poet and co-blogger Dave Bonta recorded some of the ceremony, catching some of judging panel member Jo Shapcott's remarks on "...the first place poem, which blew judges away, I must say. We found it to be a glowing poem: highly, exquisitely accomplished, full of movement, full of powerful imagery; sensual, of extraordinary elegiac note. But what is different about the elegy within the poem is that it's constantly tipping towards the almost celebration of struggle. There’s a kind of huge presence, in this poem, in absence. And the first place is for a poem called Auguries by Luisa Igloria."

“Fuck the politicians”. The actor Benedict Cumberbatch has voiced his growing frustration over the migration crisis during a speech after his Hamlet performance.

The Sherlock star has been giving nightly speeches after his curtain call at the Barbican in London and asking for donations to help Syrian refugees. So far, audience contributions have raised more than £150,000 for Save the Children. Cumberbatch has been particularly critical of the British government’s decision to accept only 20,000 refugees over five years.
