For some reason, this didn't propagate properly when it was first published.

Alarmingly useful advice.

Some thoughts from my blog:

While my research centers on writing a transmedia story, the processes of it and how and why it works, there is also a social component to it. I deliberately chose to have my story be about the journey of a refugee girl escaping from war at home and trying to find a safe place to live. There are two main reasons for this: the first has to do with my experience as a Mexican-American growing up on the border of Texas and Mexico, and the second has to do with the appalling use of “boat people” as a political football by the government and the opposition here in Australia.

Doing a bit of reading before heading off to lunch.

Maybe if I try to post something here once a day, it'll eventually be something useful.

This thing is basically only useful (although it is very useful!) as a subculture facilitator, IMO. It's great for games and talking about work/creative projects and basically useless for most of the normal social networking stuff...

Boosting the signal on this...

As seen on twitter: There is an open list of women creators in indie games being created on Google+. If you are one, add yourself to it and pass it along!

Now we can see how few internet connections actually link to Australia.
When former US senator Ted Stevens described the internet in 2006 as a “series of tubes” he was mocked mercilessly, but as this map of the vast network of undersea cables that the internet runs through is anything to go by, he wasn’t too far off.

Okay, Google. WTF? Aside from being such an obvious way to lose people, how is this at all in line with your supposed values?

Introduction
Started life in the Rio Grande Valley, drifted west to El Paso, drifted as far east as the Atlantic allowed into South Carolina before spending nearly 14 years in NYC.

Now I've drifted all the way to Australia. This means that at this rate, by the time I'm 60, I should be living on the moon.

Went to see a movie this past Saturday night. They've narrowed the seat widths so if you're bigger than a women's size 10, you're going to have to wedge yourself in there. Presumably they do this to force you to cough up for the "premium seating" up at the front in red plush chairs. Also, at the end of Marvel movie (Winter Soldier), the projectionist stopped the movie BEFORE THE CREDITS ENDED. You don't have to be a Marvel movie fan to know that there's always a scene at the end of the credits. I'm extraordinarily disappointed at the nasty manipulative seating tactics intended to get you to cough up more money, and at the carelessness and disinterest of staff at this theatre. It'll be a long time before I go there again, if I ever do.

The guys are OUTSTANDING. I will not go anywhere else. In fact, I've got a Holden dealership around the corner where I live and I gladly drive the 20km to get to Albany Auto Centre instead. They'll gladly pick you up or drop you off at the train station. Their rates are absolutely reasonable with no hidden nonsense. They will take excellent care of you and your car.

I'm not sure what happened with the other reviewer, but that experience is not at all like mine. We've got a few 24-hour gyms that have opened up nearby, but I much prefer Genesis because of the staff and facilities. I have never been pressured regarding my fees (which I feel are quite reasonable), and any time I've had questions or problems I've had my concerns answered with courtesy, promptness, and respect. To be completely honest, I'm surprised to see the high level of customer service at Genesis Windsor, because that degree of professionalism isn't common these days. The facilities are extensive. Plenty of cardio (treadclimbers, treadmills, upright and recumbent stationary bikes, and a couple of rowing machines -- which is not an exhaustive list), and plenty of free and assisted weights of all kinds. There's a boxing ring and hanging bags, a private exercise space for women, childcare services, and a good range of Les Mills classes. They also have a cafe with all kinds of goodies, and there's a massage therapist who works on-site one or two days a week. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.
