Surely there's little room for interpretation with the MM simply recording luminance. The red filter reduces overall luminosity and then filters in favour of red. The level of light getting to the sensor is much reduced and the red filter will leave this image very much more dull. Wouldn't the most accurate B&W with red filter be the MM, where the only colored filter in the equation is attached to the front element? As opposed to a color camera with a beyer and then interpolated red filter in photoshop.

I'd be interested to see a B&W film camera undergo the same test as the MM?

Hey Michael,

I don't quite understand what you meant with your comment. The only part clear to me is the last: of course it would be great to compare the MM with a film camera, at least in principle. There are a few problems I can see there though: first is that I stopped shooting film a while ago, so I can't do such a test at the moment; second, B&W film stocks all have different color responses to begin with, so you'd have to test quite a few different films to make it meaningful.

Best,

Vieri

Especially with Monochrom files where a single image wide process is not optimal, I use layer masks. It's not cheating, it just allows me to process sky separately from concrete or people. #photography   #tutorial #photoshop   #leicamonochrom
