Finding The Right 12-Step Meeting

Whether you’re in need of NA or AA in Denver, not all 12-Step meetings are the same. You’re going to find that each meeting you try has its own culture. For example, some meetings attract older members. Some are for newcomers like you. Others are mostly men or mostly women. You may feel more comfortable in some meetings than others.

For some people, their misconceptions are confirmed when they don’t appear like a ‘typical alcoholic’. They believe that they don’t have an addiction because they can still go to work, take care of their kids, etc. However, an ability to function in society doesn’t necessarily mean that one doesn’t have an addiction to alcohol.

On behalf of the AspenRidge Team, we would like to recognize Joe Chouinard as teammate of the month! Joe started as a house manager almost two years ago and is now our Medical Coordinator. It is no wonder why Joe was elected as Teammate of the month because he is always striving to provide the best care possible to our clients and support the rest of the team. A brief message from Joe himself: “I came to work for AspenRidge in February of 2017 as a house manager where I had the opportunity to share my experience of recovery with our clients. After a year with the company I was given the chance to move into the medical department where I work with our providers to ensure our clients receive the best medical care possible. AspenRidge has given me the opportunity to further my education by providing continuing training, classes and supervision while empowering me to help clients find solutions to their problems and become self-sufficient in recovery. The thing I love most about working for AspenRidge is the supportive and fun culture of our team.”

On behalf of the AspenRidge North's Fort Collins team, we would like to recognize Walker Mondok as teammate of the month! Walker is a new addition to the housing team in Fort Collins. It has been a pleasure to watch Walker grow and learn over the past few months! There was no question when the rest of the Fort Collins team chose Walker for teammate of the month since she is a great team player and always strives to support our clients to the best of her ability. A brief message from Walker herself: “I started at aspen ridge north in June as a house manager for the female clients. The biggest things I get out of my job is a sense of purpose and belonging in my community. The things I love most about it are working with others and having a positive impact on people around me.”

In a nutshell, both types of rehab offer advantages and disadvantages. Also, not every form of care is right for everyone. There are some people who need what they will receive in an inpatient facility. Likewise, there are others who will benefit more from attending an outpatient program. Both can be beneficial, as long as the individual’s needs are being met.

Tom Gorman, the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy’s Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, had this to say about meth in Colorado,

Meth has been overshadowed by opioids and marijuana in news headlines in Colorado recently, Gorman says, but “we’ve had a meth problem in this area for a long time.”
