How to raise a happy child for Make Cycle 1 in  #clmooc
I used canva.com for the poster in the blog post and Flipagram.
This was lots of fun and fuzziness to make.
Awesome! Hope you like it, friends.
Friday morning, Julia and I wake up on a sunny yet chilly day, since it's winter time down here. We begin going about our business, me making coffee and Julia drawing on her green rubber play mat. ...

What a great post, Aaron. Thank you for this reflection! Never before I think have we been staring at the complexity and mess of learning and the failure of the one-size-fits-all approach to it.
Best,
Clarissa

Being a lifelong learner is something that I always promote with my students. But what is it really and how do we teach it? When I 'Googled' the phrase "What is a lifelong learner" I found this statement, which I believe i...

Clarissa,
I saw you introduce yourself on the clmooc make cycle #1 Google hangout. You mentioned your work to support teacher learning in Brazil, and I thought you might be interested in this project: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aprender-a-estudar-a-learning-platform-for-better-teaching--2

I did some work last year with one of the leaders of the project, Beatriz Cardoso. If this interests you or any of your colleagues, I can put you in touch with her.

Keith, this is crazy, the timing of this. I have recently written someone a message that has made me cry upon reading it for the umpteenth time, yet that time out loud to myself. I have also been thinking about how we ourselves are a shifting filter and how each time we do, read, listen to, act upon the world around us, we do so in a different way, as if from a different interpretation of ourselves. Reading your post has also got me thinking about Maturana's take on emotions as being our real essence, as opposed to rationality. Emotions are what define and inform our dominion of action, every time, all the time. I'm pretty hooked to this reading and will certainly be blogging it soon.
I really like the way you call complexity 'emergence' here. It seems to dynamize the complex even more deeply.
Thank you for giving me this insight into emergence.

Warmest,
C.
Before I engaged with Rhizo14, I was writing a series of posts about complexity and how it affects education in general and my own field, composition, in particular. I want to return to that line of thought, but from an obliq...

Clarissa, thanks for commenting. I think Maturana is correct about emotions being at the heart of our knowledge at least as much if not more than rationality, an idea echoed in Morin. Emotion, and the transcendent experiences that often spark those emotions, are too often excluded from education, and yet, by all reliable accounts, it's the emotions that give life and the subjects that we teach their flavors and textures.

I think we writing teachers can begin to reclaim the emotional realm by reintroducing the use of first and second person in our own writing and student writing. The emotionless, objective style is fine for listing ingredients on the side of a soda can but not much else. Let's put people back in our writing.
