Glad they're keeping the place true to its origins and roots. Hasn't changed a bit in over 30 years. Whoever said "you can never go home" has never been to Lafayette Coney Island. After years of being away, you walk in the door here and it's like you never left. The next door neighbor, American Coney, was similarly small until they remodeled several years ago. They can do a lot more business with the added space, but when I want to feel connected to the city and my roots, I stop in at Lafayette. Ask the for the "Special" - hot dog with loose hamburger and chilli on a hot dog bun - and ask for extra onions and mustard! Real Detroit :-)

What a great place. Chili onions and mustard on top of a nice big ol' hotdogs and a warm steamy bun. A must do for Detroit.

I and a fellow New Yorker visited my old college 'haunt' last year and i must say, he was absolutely delighted and I felt like I had returned to an old and familiar long lost friend. This is the epitome of a great hotdog, smothered in chili, onions and mustard on a perfectly steamed bun. But the best thing is the endearing wait staff, who make everyone feel welcome and like family. Of course the decor is lacking, it is original and don't you change a thing! It has been that way for 30+ years and is a Detroit institution!

Cool hole in the wall. Decided to go after hearing about it for years and finally nearby to try it. Got the gist on table vs carry out from one of Detroit's finest. Super people, not a lot of chit chat. Well worth the trip. Loved the chili sauce. Definitely putting on the list of places to go to again.

Being from Detroit, I was very excited to eat atcthe birth place of the Coney. I couldn't have been more disappointed. Our waiter was a total jerk, completely blowing me off mid order and telling the rest of my party to hurry up as they ordered. I tried to inform someone else, but they could care less. What a joke!
