If you come to Detroit, and try Lafayette, and decide you don't like it, DON'T COME BACK TO DETROIT. WE DON'T LIKE YOU ANYWAY. That being said, this is THE BEST PLACE for coneys in DETROIT. It's fast cheap, delicious, with no frills and nothing to be confused about. You really need a menu at a Coney island? Wtf? Bring cash!!! Be prepared to tip!!! Try the baklava!!!

Delicious coney dogs. The atmosphere is not as nice as American Coney Island but many will argue the coneys are better. I'm not going to venture into that. They also have tasty baklava.

I prefer these over American Coney. You can see them making their own mustard, and it just seems like the focus is on the food, where it should be. In a coney war, nobody really cares about how shiny your table is.

Was in detroit for the weekend and decided to check out the famous Coney Island on Lafayette. Place is a dive, which is part of the charm, so you can't fault them for that. However, the tables were disgusting and the was not good. I just don't get's a skinny hotdog on a mass produced bun with watery chili, raw onions, and regular yellow mustard piled on top. I wish I would have gone to the one next door, at least it was clean looking.

This place has the best coney in Detroit. Ignore the whiners complaining about service. You can't walk into Lafayette and be sensitive, if so, go to Leo's for an inferior dog and a hug.

Glad they're keeping the place true to its origins and roots. Hasn't changed a bit in over 30 years. Whoever said "you can never go home" has never been to Lafayette Coney Island. After years of being away, you walk in the door here and it's like you never left. The next door neighbor, American Coney, was similarly small until they remodeled several years ago. They can do a lot more business with the added space, but when I want to feel connected to the city and my roots, I stop in at Lafayette. Ask the for the "Special" - hot dog with loose hamburger and chilli on a hot dog bun - and ask for extra onions and mustard! Real Detroit :-)
