Yes, the groupon made me brought me in, in addition to every other table that night. Came here on a Saturday night around 6:30- we were one of 3 tables although it did get more busy as the night wore on Yes, the wine was cheap but nicely paired with our meal. Yes, the waiter was relatively attentive & we left full & happy. App, shared porterhouse & dessert made for nice portions. Rare porterhouse was largely delicious, but it wasn't cooked evenly. Not a fan of medium or well, and certain parts were borderline that (meaning, I won't touch it) No, I'm not sure if I would come back again. It was a decent meal, but not sure if I'd spend another $120+ here (amount we paid for voucher + tip) Side note- if I'm ever craving french onion soup, I would make a beeline for Statler Grill! I was very impressed by my delicious & filling appetizer!

So my mother decided to purchase the popular "Groupon" deal for the Statler Grill, which provided 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, a bottle of wine and dessert. I must say that I was initially very skeptical of the Statler Grill, which is conveniently located directly across the street from MSG/Penn Station. It seemed like a tourist trap that wouldn't offer anything special. On the evening we visited, we informed the waiter that we had to get to our Momma Mia show on Broadway within the next 1.5 hours. The waiter was extremely polite and submitted our orders very quickly. We shared the porterhouse steak, cooked medium, the spinach and mashed potatoes. The steak was extremely tender, the portions were large (more than enough for 2 people) and the side dishes were appropriately sized. Even better was the table service in which the waiter served us our steak and side dishes. It was unnecessary but a nice touch. For dessert, we went with coffee, the rice pudding and cheesecake. Overall, the experience was very good. We were seated in a nice nook on the wall of the restaurant, had a good view of outside and we were served promptly. The waiter was extremely courteous and I have absolutely no complaints. I would absolutely return again with the Groupon coupon. Absolutely surprised by how decent the place was and how much food we were served.

Time for a real review. Ok I've never been here before, but you know things aren't going well at the Grill when on entering you are questioned "Do you have a Groupon"? Indicating this is their default clientele. But bare with me dear reader, and you shall understand why. The place is relatively empty on a Sunday night, save for a few lonely proletariat couples in polo tees and heartland folk who garner around the area reserved for groupon folk, a busy corner of "prix fixe" menus consisting of a limited choice. The girlfriend and I chose Appetizers - buffalo mozzarella/tomatoes French Onion soup Entree - porterhouse steak for two with sides (mash and creamed spinach) Dessert - cheesecake and bread pudding Drinks - bottle of wine and coffee. So all very staple grill nosh fare. The mozzarella and tomatoes were agreeable. However The French onion soup was thick and nonchalant. The porterhouse steak was "ok" steak, however I was expecting something more... Delicious? The sides (no choice other than the two listed) however were tasty and a compliment to the chef. The cheesecake was bland cream cheese paste, whilst the bread puddling was quite nice, memories of boarding school kitchen fare with an added luxury of mint leaves. Being a proud anti-connoisseur, the red wine was quaffable and drinkable, the coffee no different to any filtered in an American diner. So all in all, staple nosh in grill style, some pleasant, some boring. Service was accommodating and friendly, so that was fine. However the pricing has some issues. Yes it was a groupon. We paid $99 for the whole above food affair. $50 per head isn't great in nyc, but it isn't bad, and let's face it prices can usually go above your head for a 3 course meal in nyc. The real challenge was the "real" price - normally the above meal would have translated to a whopping $163 for two - some intimate restaurants cost a lot less for a meal like this. I can't help but feel slightly conned through groupon fakery - an inflated price to justify the service/tip charge, automatically billed on you for $29.34 - 18% a la those mandated prices in south beach Miami. $134 for two for standard grill..., So..... I know what you wanna know. "Taylor," you ask fervently, "Tell us what you *really* think?" Well I think that while the service people were nice and the food was okay, it really did not deserve such a price even at a discount and certainly not at full price. It feels like the establishment have thrown in the towel at getting locals and have permanently bumped up the inflated menu prices to draw in a permanent groupon / tourist out of town crowd that will eat there, never to return. In a competitive place like New York City there are other restaurants that do better, for less. And by the lack of regular diners, it sadly shows. I hate bitching. The mash potato and the servers were great.

We bought a Groupon $216 for $89 plus $30 tip. I don't know what the last $216 dinner thay had was or how good they know you can actually eat for in NYC for $216. Trust me the place is old, out dated and looks like it about to go out of business. The steak is not that good. Trust me just go to a good steak house and get what you want. You are not saving nothing at all here. The last laugh will be on them when they are out of business for scamming customers. I won't buy a Groupon again

The worst place ever OVER PRICED for the quality of food the stuff is the worst including the manager! They robbed me basicaly by not even asking how much tip I wanted to leave... they took my money and noone ever come back I was going to leave a good tip but the guy robbed me with $40 dolars whithout even asking me pr returning my change... THERE are WAY BETTER RESTAURANTS than this... the only professional people is the bartender ... they live from Grupon I know the place will close near future... I hope this happends soon so they can stop fooling people with the overprice food and quality!! NO RECOMMENDED GO SOMEWHERE ELSE YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME!! MONEY AND THE PLACE IS NOT WORTH IT...

Bad service! We just wanted to eat something small and ordered a salad per person and french fries. Obviously this order was too small for the waiters. They were very unfriendly and let us feel that we should leave as soon as possible. Additionally the fries were bad, and the bill high (2 salads, 1 french fries, a coca cola and a beer: 60 $)
