Former Prime Minister Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, a great visionary, led a vulnerable fledgling nation to independence 50 years ago. In his own words, Singapore’s remarkable journey has been from ‘third world to first’.  Today, thanks to his vision and determination, Singapore is one of the world’s most successful countries.
Teachers and staff at GIIS-EC, observed a one minute silence in honour of the great leader and paid glowing tributes to him.

Martyr’s Day
Martyr’s Day is observed every year in India on January 30, the day that Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in 1948, as a mark of respect to our great leader.
Martyr’s Day was observed on January 30 at GIIS-East Coast Campus.  A field assembly was organised to mark the solemn occasion. The assembly began with a speech on ‘Martyr’s Day’ delivered by Anu Rachel Joseph followed by another speech by Haripriya  on ‘The Importance of Gandhism in our daily lives’.   A two minute silence was observed throughout the school in reverence of the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for our motherland.  The school choir presented a patriotic song on the verse of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s poem  ‘Jo Barso tak Rahe Jail Mein….. .’ The assembly ended with a Dandi March, led by students of Class 3 who came dressed as famous national leaders.  The choir added to the patriotic fervour by singing Gandhiji’s favourite bhajans while the Dandi March was going on.

Chinese New Year Celebrations
Chinese New Year was celebrated throughout the school on February 18 with students dressed in red.  An assembly was conducted by kindergarten students and students of Classes 4A and 4B.  A lion dance was organized for students of Classes 1, 2 and 3.  Students of Class 5 distributed oranges and hand-made cards to our Chinese neighbours.  Cards were also distributed to kindergarten students as a part of SEWA activities by students of Classes 6, 7 and 8.
This gesture was received well and few of them gave Ang bao's, sweets and oranges in return. The students enjoyed the interaction and immersion experience.

It was overwhelming to see the great spread generously contributed and supported by our ever enthusiastic parents towards this worthy cause.  Students from Kindergarten to Class 10 helped raise the money. The bake sale was a stupendous success.
