Sense Stations
The development of the senses should precede all other educational experiences. In children, especially between the ages of three to six, the sensorial experience is essential for laying the foundation for other areas of development.  Our Kindergarten children had a wonderful opportunity to experience activities based on the 5 senses – seeing, smelling, touching, hearing and tasting through the Sense Stations set up on May 22.  It was a culmination of the activities conducted during the month as part of the theme of “My Body”. Parents were invited for the event.

Mothers’ Day Celebrations
Mother's Day is a celebration honouring one's own mother, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. The bond between mothers and children is one defined by love. As a mother’s prayers for her children are unending, so are the wisdom, grace, and strength they provide to their children. GIIS East Coast Campus celebrated Mothers’ Day on May 8.  As a part of the celebrations, three competitions were organized:  Digitales (Digital Story Telling Competition), an inter Campus event, Jewellery Designing Competition and Kiddos’ Lunch Bag Designing Competition, with the last two conducted on the spot. The results of Digitales will be announced at a later date.  We had a group of very enthusiastic and creative mothers who participated in the competitions and stunned the judges with their fine work of art. After a tough round of judgement, the Principal, Ms. Melissa Maria gave away the prizes to the winners. Wishing all Mothers ‘A Very Happy Mother’s Day’.

Singapore National Day Celebrations at EC
As Singapore celebrates its 50th birthday this year, GIIS-EC Campus embarked upon a fantastic way to celebrate it - creating our own mural - the SG50 Greenovation logo using small mirrors.

The Guest of Honour for the event was Mr. Charles Chong You Fook, Member of the Parliament, representing the Joo Chiat Single Member Constituency, and Deputy Speaker of Parliament. We also had members from the Siglapian Alumni Association, Mr. Gregory Polson, Head of School, World International School, many guests from the pioneer generation and teachers from Bedok Green Primary School. Apart from the guests, the other dignitaries present were the Senior members of the GIIS Management Team.

The programme started with the inauguration of the SG50 Greenovation logo by Mr. Charles Chong followed by the viewing of the scroll prepared by the students of GIIS EC as a tribute to late Prime Minister Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.   Following the welcome address by the Principal, Ms. Melissa Maria, we had the flag hoisting ceremony by the GOH. The guests then got to witness the traditional Lion Dance performance, followed by Chinese Fan Dance, Malay Dance and Bhangra Dance performed by our students.

The Chief representative from the Singapore Book of Records, Mr. Elridge, presented our Principal, Ms. Melissa Maria with the certificate of achievement and that moment marked our official entry into the Singapore Book of Records.
In the morning, 20 students of Classes 4 and 5 were invited to BGPS (Bedok Green Primary School) for the SG50 celebrations. The programme commenced in the parade ground with the march past followed by the national anthem and pledge. Then, in the auditorium a number of spectacular programmes were lined up like the choir performance, Guzheng performance, Malay dance, Skit, Chinese dance and community singing led by the school choir.

Lots-O-Bubbles
Kindergarten students had great fun celebrating ‘Bubbles Day’ on April 30, Research shows that playing with bubbles is actually an important accessory in the development of childrens’ gross motor skills.  It was great to watch our delighted kindergarteners chasing the little balls of wonder, trying to catch and pop them.  To tap on their creativity, they engaged in creating colourful bubble prints using bubble wraps and also by blowing bubbles and creating colourful imprints.
