NASA announced evidence on Thursday that Jupiter’s largest moon, Ganymede, has a saltwater ocean under its icy surface. The ocean seems to have more water than all the water on Earth’s surface, according to new Hubble observations.

How Fast Are You Moving When You Are Sitting Still?

1.) For the Earth to make one complete rotation in 24 hours, a point near the equator of the Earth must move at close to 1000 miles per hour (1600 km/hr).

(2.) In addition to spinning on its axis, the Earth also revolves around the Sun. To go around this immense circle in one year takes a speed of 18.5 miles a second or 66,000 miles per hour (107,000 km/hr). - http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/102009042?q=faster+than+bullet&p=par

(3.) Our Sun is just one star among several hundred billion others that together make up the Milky Way Galaxy. Relative to the local standard of rest, our Sun and the Earth are moving at about 43,000 miles per hour (70,000 km/hr) roughly in the direction of the bright star Vega in the constellation of Lyra.

(4.) In addition to the individual motions of the stars within it, the entire Galaxy is in spinning motion like an enormous pinwheel. It takes our Sun approximately 225 million years to make the trip around our Galaxy and the speed with which the Sun has to move is an astounding 483,000 miles per hour (792,000 km/hr)! The Earth, anchored to the Sun by gravity, follows along at the same fantastic speed.

What would a control panel look like if one were to track some of Earth's movements through space?

Eleanor Lutz gives us an idea by creating an amazing infographic called, "Planet Earth Control Deck."

I showed these off before when I first found them on Reddit, but I'm glad to say I've partnered up with Paul Longino to host his 1979 Permanent Character Folder - styled character sheets for Fifth Edition D&D (and his lovely maps as soon as he gets a scanner for them) on the Dodecahedron!

NFC Keyboard for Android by Elecom *
http://amzn.to/1uF9ihV

The NFC Wireless Keyboard for Android is a perfect companion for those of us who write a lot while travelling. Writing on a phone’s touchscreen is not ideal for many reasons, including speed and comfort, but we like portable keyboards even less. However this is not the case with Elecom’s keyboard, because it’s small, foldable and it connects as easy as 1, 2, 3 thanks to NFC.

Also, weighing just 5 ounces, it’s very lightweight. Did we mention it’s so thin you can keep it in your pocket? Another problem that affects today’s gadgets is battery life: from a few hours to a couple of days at most, we cannot use our gadgets for very long without having to charge them. And this is another case when this amazing portable keyboard shines: thanks to its internal lithium ion battery, it can be used for up to 18 months without ever charging it. That’s right, a year-and-a-half of battery life.

This is the world’s first NFC keyboard for Android devices, and you’ll love it.

Here are a few additional details:

Radiowave frequency: 13.56MHz
Transmission distance: 10mm
A key material: Silicon
Key stroke: 1.0mm
Key pitch: 15.0mm
Number of key: 45 keys
External dimensions: 341.0 65.0* 8.6mm
Mass: Approximately 144 g

Just cause...
I've been watching Miami Vice marathons on El Rey Network this week, and I think I'm enjoying it more than I did back in the day. I wouldn't have expected it to hold up 30 years later, because few TV shows do. But MV does with great stories, complex characters, fantastic music by Jan Hammer, and a huge roster of young guest actors who went on to much bigger things.

Merlin: The Electronic Wizard by Parker Bros.

Who remembers Merlin? A few people must since it sold over 5m units during its initial run. I remember it well...

Merlin's simple array of buttons and lights supported play of six different games, some of which could be played against the computer or against another person. Here is the list of games that could be selected:

Tic Tac Toe
Music Machine
Echo, a game similar to Simon
Blackjack 13
Magic Square, a pattern game similar to Lights Out
Mindbender, a game similar to Mastermind
