I love using Linux and +Ubuntu 13.10 but just occasionally it really, really irritates me. I used to be able to just plug in an external usb keyboard into the laptop and it would just work. Now it just doesn't, no indication why not, just wont recognise it. It's a working keyboard as I can quite happily plug it into a tower and its fine. USB ports are ok as well. No doubt someone decided somewhere that the existing way of working wasn't right and so has built a whole now framework to make it work in new and interesting ways whilst at the same time forgetting that in the real world plugging a usb keyboard into a niche vendors laptop(Lenovo) is something that people just expect to work.
No doubt i should raise a bug report with ubuntu but the chances are someone in canonical thinks keyboards are a thing of the past and that I have had ample time to move away from the restrictions of keyboards, I am thinking systray here, so will mark as fixed. Someone  will suggest i use arch, someone will add an arcane command line fix that worked in 1996 but will probably mean that nothing will work in the future, someone else will suddenly get the idea that they should write a USB framework that really works and in 5 years time that will break the usb again when its half implemented as the latest best thing.
In the mean time I shall play around and waste a couple of hours trying to get it working and getting more frustrated, which I am fast coming to believe is the Devs way of getting back for all the inane requests and comments  they get from us mere end users.

If you have a bug up you will probably be able to triage it easier. I have no idea how the Roccat driver works but you might need to blacklist something with 'modprobe'.

The youngest child has been doing the projectile vomit thing since last night. Could be a long day today.

+TalkyAttorney  I know nothing about Jack so look forward to it. I run a little minecraft server for the kids and their school friends and do community builds on it, repair any mob griefing  and organise events like killing the dragon and want to be able to record those with some commentary.  I have used other screen recorders but simple screen recorder seems to work best on my somewhat limited graphics card. So thanks again for taking the time to do the tutorial on how to get this running with Minecraft.

Very good food and service with a smile not frown made a pleasant change. Kids enjoyed it too. £6.50 for a three course kids meal plus a drink was very good value. Would use again without hesitation. Decor was nothing special but that did not matter.

The swimming pool is always very cold, how they expect little kids to enjoy their swimming lessons when they shiver the whole time is beyond me. Vote with your money and use somewhere else. The only way they will listen to parents is to hurt them where they feel it most, in Sol's bottom line. Dont even bother to ask them to do something about it you will only get a stock answer that its at the "right temperature". Instead make a point of going in and telling them that you have booked lessons elsewhere because of it, eventually when the swim instructors start seeing classes empty out then maybe they will do something.

Shop is good but expensive, nice pies. Restaurant is good but expensive. Garden centre is good but expensive. A very cheap afternoon out as you can take a picnic, the animals and play area is free, window shop in the store, so you don't have to spend much at all. Not tried the Maize maze but I am told its good.

Just had a great week at this site. Nice caravan, a 2012 model, everything very clean. Pool was great for both our 3 and 5 year olds but we spent more time on the very nice beach. There was a bit of seaweed but the site did their best to keep it to a minimum and it certainly didn't bother us . A bit pricey if you book with Haven but you can book privately with owners which is apparently cheaper but overall we had a great time. The staff we met were friendly and courteous and went out of their way to help. the site was spotless but maybe could do with a few speed bumps to slow down some of the idiots that drive too fast.
