A participants first hand view on his work placement

Alessandro Kostis, ZNI’s Leonardo da Vinci Mobility participant from Italy was the first international volunteer working on the project European Capital of Culture.

“So, guess my surprise when I discovered this big office full of people of my age, maybe younger too, working all together around a big table crowded with laptops. You could not find a similar scenario in Italy (that is the country I come from, by the way), at least not within such a big and important project as the European Capital of Culture. Italians who are in the position of decision makers, don’t seem to have any trust in young people and, consequently, it’s practically impossible to see someone under the age of forty years having some real responsibilities.”

What guidance did ZNI give you when choosing and appointing your work placement?

Student answer: The ZNI team were very helpful with our work placements, they took into account what field of work we wanted to work in and built around our skills and qualities.  Once the placements were organized and put into place we then took part in an interview process with our work place, this helped us settle in and gain a further understanding of the company. We were given free bus passes and a guided tour by a member of the ZNI team, this helped us understand the bus routes and times.
